SchoolNotes.com - Linking Educators to the Community

    Welcome!

Please visit "my favorite links" below. They are links to our GPS standards as well as sites for review and interactive practice for the various elements of English Language Arts that will be tested on the GHSGT and EOCT tests, for which we have been preparing and continue to prepare throughout the semester. The last two links at the bottom are for, respectively, American Literature EOCT and 9th grade EOCT. These guides outline everything from how to prepare for the test to summaries of items to appear on the test. As a reminder, the EOCT is from December 4th- 8th and will count 15% of your final grade (according to our state standards for the core classes)

An equally important goal we are pursuing with the goal of having my students pass the standardized test is preparation for the real world beyond high school. We are practicing formal writing in the various modes, literary comprehension/interpretation/analysis/extended conceptualizing, writing mechnanics, technology incorporation, SAT vocabulary and Latin roots definition and analysis.

In addition to the above-mentioned areas of study and practice, we are also observing our progress as Americans through the study of the literature produced during the different eras in America. Our goal is to be able to form hypotheses about how we are defining ourselves today as Americans and African-Americans. As we've mentioned the first day of school, we are in the midst of a new era that has yet to be defined. Although it is impossible to completely define where we stand as we are standing in that spot, we can piece together what we've both borrowed and discarded from the generations before us to see who we are and who we are becoming. Examining both fictional and nonfictional texts from the previous ages in America allow us to get fairly accurate clues to who we were and where we are going!!

Some Favorite Links:
