Technology Education

Technology Education is a nine week class for 6th and 7th graders and a semester class for 8th graders.  It has been designed to allow students to experience many of the new technologies that affect our daily life.  The class incorporates learning modules and material so students can interact with robots, lasers, high-tech computer controls, CAD and other high-tech equipment.
The students will choose six areas of exploration from the list below.
                              1.Robotics             10.  Research and Design
2.Desktop Publishing     11.  Telecommunications
3.Computer Aided Design  12.  Lasers
4.Digital Photography    13.  Computer Special  ffects
5.Aviation         14.  Digital Audio Production
6.Space             15.  Video Broadcasting
7.Natural Resources     16.  Pneumatics
8.Electronics         17.  Structures
9.Aerodynamics         18.  Mechanisms

The lab contains some expensive equipment.  The success of the program depends on respect for fellow students and school property.
Your overall grade will be determined by the work ethic shown everyday in class.  You will earn 20 points per day for coming to class on time, with a pencil, and staying on task.  This equals 900 points for the 9 weeks.  If you fail to do what is expected, points will be deducted for the day.  Improper behavior will be dealt with according to the severity of the offense.  I will deal with behavior / violation of school rules in the following ways:
            1.  Verbal Warning
            2.  Writing Assignment
            3.  Call Parents
                        4.  Detention
            5.  In-House Suspension
            6.  Office Referral
Repeated offenses could result in loss of module privileges.  If you are placed in in-house suspension (IHS), in-school suspension (ISS), or out-of-school (OSS) you will not receive any attendance points for those days in suspension.  Work completed in IHS or ISS will be accepted.  If there is a repeated or serious problem I will require a conference with the parent and student.  You will not be allowed to participate in the lab until the conference.  Each module will be worth 300 points, class projects will be worth 100 points each and work ethics will be worth 900 points. Typically, there will be 1600 possible points each 9 weeks.  At the end of the 9 weeks the points you received will be totaled and divided by the total points possible.  The grading scale is as follows:
A     100 – 90
B      89 – 80
C      79 – 70
F      69 – 0

You will not be issued a book for this class.  A classroom set of materials will be available for any class or module activities.

If I can be of any service or you would like to visit the lab, please feel free to contact me at the school, 706-569-3709.
              Sincerely,
