This nine weeks we are covering the biomes of the Earth. So far we have studied coniferous, deciduous and
tropical rainforest.Students should have a biome notebook to keep their notes in. They will be using these
notes to create an end of unit project. They will not have a quiz this friday because they had a quiz
this past Tues.

This week we are finishing up the terrestrial biomes. Students will be working on several hands on projects as we bring this section to a close. I encourage you to talk with your student about these ecological developments.
On Tuesday they will be working on a biome wheel. This will allow them the opportunity to put the information learned into an efficient study/reference tool. They will also start to put together their biome booklet which will be due after thanksgiving. Thursday and Friday they will begin work on their biome snapshot. This should prove to be an interesting project because it includes research, artistic creativity and peer colaboration. This will run through next Tuesday.

Hello! Hope your students did well the 1st nine weeks. Please contact us if we can help  explain some of the comments on the student report card especially the comments. This week we continue to work on the biomes of the world. Last week we worked on the Coniferous and Deciduous forest biomes. We will examine the plant and animal life found in these biomes as well as the characteristics of each biome. This will continue to be our main focus for the next 4 weeks or so. There are several websites that can be used to enhance student potential. Please ask your student about them and have them show it to you.

Welcome! It's that time again progress reports!! I have issued out progress reports for the past two weeks. Please ask your child about the grades and help them to get focused for this last week of assignments before report card grades go in. ******    We are continuing to work on food webs as well as animal and plant adaptations. Students are learning about the different types of adptations and why they are effective. I was pleased with the overall effort students exhibited on the last exam but I must continue to state that students should study daily in order to maintain the effectivness of the instruction. *****

SOCIAL STUDIES:
I have decided to put our "Praise Project" on hold until next week. I'll give you more information on that. We have just finished our study on China. I was not pleased with our outcomes so we will continue to work with this country as we start to examine Japan. Students will need to bring their books home to study the information reviewed in class.

Feel free to contact me if you have any concerns and thank you for your continued support.

9/22

This week we will be preparing for our first major test which will be given on Wed. It is of the highest importance that our students prepare for this exam. They have been given a study guide to help prepare them for this exam. These guides should be completed by Wed. and turned in along with their symbiosis organizer. *****Thursday we will resume our focus on food chains and webs as well as introduce the concept of biomes. *********** Our final project for this nine weeks will involve the creation of a food web by the students. They will have to create the environment/ name the organisms /describe the relationship between the organisms and explain if they are a producer, consumer,or decomposer. They are also to find the classification of the main P/C/D in their webs. This assignment puts together all the mini projects I've asked them to do so far this year.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We are preparing for our first major exam on Tues. included in this exam will be the countries of China, Mongolia, and Taiwan. We will move from China to Japan and North/South Korea. With our present economic problems and upcoming elections this is an excellent time to introduce these interesting and often politically complex countries to our children.

PROJECT ALERT

Social Studies students will be given a "PRAISE" project to do at the completion of the study of each major country or reigon. Students will be given the criteria for each assignment. Ask them about their countries and the information they are researching
