ATTENTION ALL GRADES: Grammar test, Mar 17: double negatives, pedicate nominatives, predicate adjectives, direct objects, indirect objects, transitive and intransitive verbs, regular and irregular verbs, subject-verb agreement--EMPHASIS ON NEITHER-NOR, EITHER-OR, and indefinite pronouns, and fragments

ATTENTION ALL GRADES: Tutoring is available Mon-Tue-
Wed-Thur from 3:55-4:30 until CRCT week.  Students should come to tutoring with SPECIFIC questions about matters that they do not understand. Bring tests, essays, and quizzes about which you have questions.

There will be a heavy emphasis on grammar as we prepare for the CRCT. Students should study from the Ready Reference Guide and ask questions in class.

HOMEWORK: Sixth grade. Vocab quiz Mar 18: to break, ominously, to bound, to air, taste, to bridge, distaste, to be aloof, malevolent, wryly, meekly, haughty.

Summary of chapter 6, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry due three hundred words, MLA format, due Mar 20.

We are reading Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. The book is a prelude to Let the Circle Be Unbroken (to be read next year).  We have a constant emphasis on grammar right now, so be certain to encourage study, practice, and relevance.

HhOMEWORK: Seventh grade.  Vocabulary quiz Mar 18: cathartic, tactile, tawdry, proboscis, nadir, impetus, impervious, unilateral, apathy, obluquy, exploit, baroque, tureen

We are continuing our collaborative group study of To Kill a Mocking Bird. Students are enjoying their work, and they are preparing themselves for eighth-grade work (oh, joy!).

EIGHTH GRADE HOMEWORK
Vocabulary quiz Mar 18: umbrage, vanguard, to vaunt, retinue, resplendent, optimal, to ossify, overt, leeway, to expatriate, to expunge, indulgent

We have completed our four Shakespearean plays. The students did AN OUTSTANDING job on their movie-maker and podcast projects.  They have started Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea and, with a bit of luck, we will finish the year with a couple of short essays. Please remind students that they must concentrate until the final bell--they do not want to ruin their GPA by taking it too easy, even though they already think of themselves as freshmen.
