FROM THE CHORUS DIRECTOR, MR. JONES
We are so proud of the six singers who represented
Blanchard at this year's All-City Honors Chorus at Hardaway High Saturday evening. Averi Daniels, Braden Durham, Bryce Long, Averi Smith, Lili West and Derek Dismukes performed with the chorus of 95 singers from other Columbus Elementary Schools. We also heard the performance of the Middle School and High School Honors Choruses as well.
Our chorus continues into 2012 with new goals and aspirations. Our chorus will perform for the Columbus Cottonmouths professional hockey team on Friday, March 2nd. The chorus must arrive at 6:30PM and meet me in the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame. We will warm up briefly and then be ushered down onto the ice for the opening ceremony, and the National Anthem. The chorus is learning several songs for the Black History Month celebration. We are also singing songs affiliated with the movement for civil rights and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Elementary Honors Chorus was directed again this year by Dr. Elizabeth Parker, of Columbus State University, Schwob School of Music. Dr. Parker is also the artistic director and conductor of The Voices Of The Valley. This group meets on a schedule concurrent with the semesters at CSU, and rehearse weekly at the River Center for the Performing Arts. Several Blanchard students have enrolled and benefited from performing with them. Auditions are going on this month. I encourage all Blanchard singers to consider auditioning and participating. Contact Dr. Parker through the Schwob School of Music website musicprep.columbusstate.edu/VoV.php
Please remember, chorus will not rehearse after school on any of our early release days.
