I am working real hard to assist your child in having a successful school year at Blackmon Road Middle School. I am going to need a lot of home support to ensure that we are successful. The following are ways to assist the students:
Homework must be done at home. These grades are essential and cannot be made up. If the students attempt to try all of the homework, credit will be given.
Homework Chart – check and sign nightly
Tuesdays 3:30-4:30. During this time, We will review Math, Reading/Language Arts and Written Expression information and work that has been missed due to absences can be made up with assistance. Please make sure you child is picked up no later than 4:30. This time can also be used to redirect new or gone over material.
Connections – Mr. Barden is stressing that the students do well in their academics and this time can be used to assist them on some assignments that may need extra attention or time on that day.
Notebooks – I have helped each student that I serve to set up his/her notebook at least once, some more than once. They will have notebook checks in their classes which should be an easy grade. Please check their notebooks at least once a week and make sure that it looks neat and the items are in the correct sections. The students need to help you do this because they know which section each item goes in and you do not.
Grades: In light of the current grades that your child has been receiving I have worked on implementing the above strategies. Hopefully with your child’s and your cooperation we will see some improvement on all the grades that you have seen thus far.
Attendance – This is very important. If your child misses days, then a lot of our time spent in class will be making up missed tests, etc… and taking away form redirection that could prove beneficial later in the year. Make sure you send a note or doctor’s excuse for excused absences.
I am aware that you child may be functioning on a lower level than his/her peers. I am also aware of the accommodations that your child may need to be successful in the classroom. I am also impressed at how far these students have been brought up to the grade level by you and the past teachers.
I have been in the High School setting and I also need to get them ready for what is expected of them in that setting.
With your cooperation and your child’s cooperation with the strategies above, I foresee a very good and successful year for your child.
