OVERVIEW OF THE WEEK OF August 25-29
We will continue our study of the English language by studying "Where New Words Come From"
Students will examine a number of different ways new words have entered and continue to enter our language.
We will use handouts and worksheets for these lessons.  The unit will culminate with a mini-poster project illustrating seven different ways we get new words.

We will also continue reading Beowulf.  This is a great little translation of the Old English poem.  It's written just for our age group and most students love it.

GPS Standards addressed this week:

ELA7R2 The student understands and acquires new vocabulary and uses it correctly in reading and writing.

ELA7R3 The student reads aloud, accurately (in the range of 95%), familiar
material in a variety of genres, in a way that makes meaning clear to listeners.

ELA7RC2 The student participates in discussions related to curricular learning
in all subject areas.

ELA7W2 The student demonstrates competence in a variety of genres.

ELA7LSV1  The student participates in student-to-teacher, student-to-student, and group verbal interactions.
