SKILL: Comparison and Contrast

OBJECTIVE: Students create opposites of the main character, setting, goal/problem, and plot elements, and describes similarities and differences between the ccreated and original elements.

PATTERN: Identifying and analyzing similarities and differences will result in increased understanding.

VISUAL TOOL: T-Chart(Modified Story Structure) and Plot Line (Double)

PROCESS QUESTIONS:
1.  What are significant characteristics of the character, setting, goal/problem, and plot?
2.  What are the opposite characteristics of the character, setting, goal/problem, and plot?
3.  How can these opposite characteristics be combined to create a new character, setting, goal/problem, and plot?
4.  What additional descriptors can be added to the invented character/setting/problem/plot? {Proficient}
5.  Does the invented plot line reveal a cohesive story line? {Exemplary}

OBJECTIVE: Students will generate questions based on following Forms of Thought: FACTUAL (verifiable facts),
INTERPERSONAL (interaction with others) BI-DIRECTIONAL
(thinking - What led up to this? What will happen next?) INTRAPERSONAL(Values), POSITIVE(Beneficial
qualities),CRITCAL(Evaluation), ESSENTIAL(basic),
CREATIVE (Possibility).  Students will generate questions Before, during, and after reading.

PATTERN: Inquiry promotes thinking and learning.

VISUAL TOOL: Question Chart  

PROCESS QUESTIONS:
   Before Reading
      What happened previously in the story?
      What prior questions remain unanswered?
      To what aspect of the story can I relate?
      What do I predict?
      What do I anticipate?
   During Reading
      Do I need to find the meaning of an unknown
      word or phrase?
      Do I understand the relationship or roles of
      these characters?
      Do I understand what I am reading? Do I need to
      reread?
      Does my understanding of the story make sense
      with what I am reading now?
   After Reading
      What are the important events in the story?
      How are they connected?
      How can this story be summarized?
      What does the author want me to know/think/
      believe/accept?
      How does this message relate to my personal
      values and/or experience?
      Did I like this book? Why or why not?
