Language Arts
We'll continue our practice with the short and long vowel sounds (A, E, I, O and U), new diapgraph sounds and we'll practice writing introduced letters correctly, sight word practice and much more! Language Arts is a very busy time of day for us! Don't forget to read 5 to 10 minutes at home each night. It is very important that you keep these books in a safe place at home and read them together each night. The more your child reads, the better reader he or she will become! Make it fun! Reward your child for a job well done. Read, read, read! It helps your child to become a more fluent reader, which in turn, will help them with their comprehension skills as they progress through 3rd grade and beyond!
It's also very important that you continue reading every day at home with your child this summer. We certainly don't want them to forget what they've learned. Remember, the more your child reads, the better reader your child will become!
During our Language Arts block, in addition to the phonics instruction, this time includes:
- poetry lesson
** Our Poetry journals will go home every Friday. Please don't forget to send it back to school on Monday.
- handwriting instruction
- literacy work stations (these are hands on, skill-building workjobs, games and activities)
- creative movement that reinforces target literacy skills
- Big book practice
- Decodable Reader instruction
- and more!

The Buzz...
* Please, send a note in your child's communication folder to me any time someone other than you (their parent) will be picking up your child. Even if the person picking your child is on the info sheet as o.k. to pick up, we STILL Must Have a written note from you. Thank you so much. If you have any questions concerning this, please let me know.
* Chapel is on Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m. The children are required to wear their chapel uniform (green Pinewood logo shirt and khaki bottoms) on chapel days. Parents are always invited to attend. Please sign in at the office, get your visitor badge, and meet us in the Sanctuary.
* We will have a snack every day at 1:20. Please label your child's snack with "snack" or pack it separately. Thanks!
* DON'T FORGET! Anyone having any contact with the children MUST be Covenant Care trained. This includes field trips.
** Be sure to look at the websites and kindergarten games that I've attached to the bottom of these notes/ All of these sites are safe for the children, plus there are great educational games to reinforce skills your children are learning in class. Check 'em out!
Please keep the children, Ms. Layton, and me in your prayers each day. If you ever have comments, questions and/or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Remember, we're in this together as partners for the children. God bless you all!
