              HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK

Please note that when I previewed this week's notes, I noticed some computer glitch that is making the words spaced oddly and stretched out across the screen. I do not know why it is doing that.

Week of May 5, 2008

Students need to finish reading biographies/autobiographies before they leave on their trips!!! If they keep saying they will read on their trip, they WILL NOT!! I promise you this because I have been on the trip twice, and no one does any work because there is too much activity and too much talking on the bus. Make your child finish the book before next Monday!!! I will pass out guidelines for the book reports on Tuesday of this week so that you will be able to see the expectations I have for them. I will be asking for a signature on the form, so ask for your child's form on Tuesday night.

Students not going on the trip need to bring back their field trip forms for seeing Prince Caspian.

THIS WEEK'S CONTENT IS GREATLY SUMMARIZED DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS. PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD'S ASSIGNMENT PAD FOR ACCURATE DETAILS OF EACH NIGHT'S WORK.

7th English:

NO VOCAB. THIS WEEK, BUT WE WILL HAVE A TEST FRIDAY OVER NOUNS, PRONOUNS, AND ADJECTIVES IN PLACE OF A VOCAB. TEST. We will also be covering verbs and doing some poetry and lit. stories. We will start our oral poem, "Be Strong." (I will be reviewing strongly for the test all week, by the way.)

TO BE SURE OF EACH NIGHT'S SPECIFIC ASSIGNMENT, PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD'S PLANNER.

8th English:

NO VOCAB. THIS WEEK. WE WILL, HOWEVER, HAVE A TEST OVER NOUNS, PRONOUNS, AND ADJECTIVES ON FRIDAY MORNING AFTER A FULL WEEK OF REVIEW. We will also be doing some poetry and studying verbs.
We will begin learning "Step by Step," a poem about seeking God's will for our lives. It is very easy and melodic to learn.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD'S PLANNER TO SEE THE ASSIGNMENTS THAT ARE DUE EACH DAY.

7th Geography:

I find that I will need to move the USA test to next Monday since I need to give the English test on Friday, and I want to have plenty of time to review for this high-value test. We still have a few important topics to discuss (the United Nations, NATO, NAFTA, and the WTO), and I will also plan to have students mark their study guides to help them concentrate on the most important information to study. We will also be finishing the Jerusalem Jr. Scholastic magazine.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD'S PLANNER TO SEE HIS/HER NIGHTLY HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT.

8th Bible

The next memory verse test will be on Tuesday, 5/13. It will be over Psalm 100, 5 short verses, having to do with worship. Students will be saying it in every class I teach this week, and they will be writing it several times in segments. Memorizing this Psalm goes with our study of Jesus cleansing the temple.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD'S PLANNER TO SEE HIS/HER NIGHTLY HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT.

ONE LAST THING:

Please pray for your child's teachers. We are all so weary, and we are at the height of misbehavior season due to spring fever. I do not want to be an ogre as I teach. I really want to enjoy my students and help them enjoy learning, too. Ask the Lord to strengthen us, give us wisdom, and help us to figure out how to get those last few tidbits of learning into those shut down brains; and while you're at it, ask the Lord to help your child concentrate when it's time to learn. Thank you so much!
