              HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK

Week of May 11, 2009

Never in my lifetime of teaching have I been so blessed by so many people!  I thank you all so much for having patience with me as I pass through the "valley of the shadow of death."  Thanks so much for all the prayers, cards, sweet hugs, and words of encouragement during this difficult time.  One thing I have learned is that Death does not care about your professional priorities.  You will give attention when He arrives.  How I thank the Lord for His sweet Presence to help me through this time!  How I thank Him for my extended Christian family which has borne my burdens and helped me through the ordeal of my brother-in-law's and then my father's passing to Heaven!  For all of you who have blessed me and my family with your meals and prayers and notes, I offer a sincere "Thanks!" and ask that you continue to pray for me because there is still so much strain to it all.  It is the Lord that gives me strength for each day, and I praise Him for it.

Meanwhile, I will try to update you a bit about what is happening this week.  I am trying to be as charitable as possible, yet I realize that we have only a short time together, and I have a few last things to cover.

******************************************************************

7th English:

Students are finishing the adjective unit and will be quizzed over adjectives on Wednesday.  They are currently finishing their books and will hand in a short biography book report form on Thursday.  Oral book reports will also begin that day.
TO BE SURE OF EACH NIGHT'S SPECIFIC ASSIGNMENT, PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD'S PLANNER.

*******************************************************************

8th English:

Today, we visited some American poetry in our textbook since we are trying to look at American literature. We will be reading a story by O. Henry next. We will also do an art-related composition.

Students will be taking a test over nouns and pronouns. The test is Wednesday, and I have asked students to go back over their noun and pronoun worksheets.  They really need to know the definitions and to be able to recognize nouns and pronouns.  They also need to review their personal pronoun chart and the various types of nouns and pronouns.  We will review and practice in class tomorrow.

Students are defining vocab. tonight for a quiz on Friday. I do not plan to give any homework over the holiday.

Special Note
A non-fiction book report will be assigned after the holiday, so students should begin looking for a biography of at least 150  pages.  The person should not be a heinous individual or criminal, associated with the occult, or alive. I strongly suggest that 8th graders read about famous people of American history, especially the founding fathers or people famous in religious circles.  The reading level of the book must be appropriate for the student's age and ability.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD'S PLANNER TO SEE THE ASSIGNMENTS THAT ARE DUE EACH DAY.

*******************************************************************

7th Geography:

No new homework today.  We will be working with notes related to the Section 3 Assessment terms defined last week. There may be a pop quiz one day this week.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD'S PLANNER TO SEE HIS/HER NIGHTLY HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT.

ONE LAST THING:

Students brought home revised report cards today.  They also have  a letter that should be signed and returned to show me that you have seen the revised report card.

The tentative date for the IMAX field trip will be April 15.  We will see a film about the Great Lakes for geography and a film called Under the Sea for science.  A form will be coming home shortly.  We will need at least 12 driver/chaperones.
