My name is Pamela Clark and this will be the third year that I have taught this particular course.  It is a very enlightening course that will definitely give you answers to your questions regarding the direction that you want to take your life and just how you can get there.  I look forward to working with each and everyone of you.  Please feel free to email me at anytime.

Course Description:     

This course is designed to help ninth grade students make a successful transition into high school, gain the skills for success in post secondary education and setting goals for future careers. This course is required for graduation from Duval County Public Schools.  It is a 1 credit course.

Course Outline and Learning Expectations:

1.    Where Am I?
This theme assists students to gain a deeper understanding of what is required of them in high school.  Topics include strategies for making good grades, getting the most out of high school, who is who at the school, study skills, and how to choose a college.
2.    Who Am I?
This theme aids students to expand their understanding of themselves. Topics include Personality traits, prioritizing what is personally important, intrapersonal and interpersonal skill building.
3.    What Do I Want?
This theme promotes the student self-assessment and decision making. Topics include how to create financial stability by utilizing a varied financial sources, understanding rewards and sacrifices, decision making and goal setting skills in regards to personal life, career and post secondary education, and research skills.
4.    How Do I Get There?
This theme helps students demonstrate the use of systematic goal setting and decision making process. Topics include how to avoid detours, personal responsibility, taking healthy risks, increasing research skills, developing a plan and managing responsibilities.

Grading:
Students are graded on their ability to present what they have learned in a meaningful way and adjust to meet the assignment criteria.


Grading Scale:
The grading scale for this course is:
A= 100-90%          
B= 89-80%    
        C=79-70%      
D= 69-60%          
F= 59-0%

Students will need:
•    Writing Utensil,
•    Notebook paper,

•    Markers, &
•    1 ˝ inch three ringed binder (with viewable cover).

Attendance:
Attendance to class every school day is important to personal success. Make-up work will be given after student presents a readmit for absence. One day is allowed for everyday that the readmit covers.

Remediation and Grade Recovery:
At the indication of poor grades students are encouraged to seek out remediation of work with teacher. Grade recovery is available for those students that earn a ‘D’ or ‘F’ on any report card except for the last quarter.  

Class Rules & Procedures:
No eating or drinking in class.  No hats or hoods.  Be in your seat when the tardy bell rings.  No admittance to class if you are tardy without a tardy pass.  Everyone Respects one another.  I dismiss the class not the bell.  No electronics of any kind in the class room.  All student code of conduct rules will apply in this class.

Homework and all classwork is to be placed in your designated period tray.  No work in the tray means a zero in the grade book.

Well, I have had the opportunity meet each and everyone of you and I must say that it has been very pleasurable.  

I am looking forward to working with each one of you this year and watching you grow into the hidden adult that you gave me a glimpse of.
