Welcome to AP Lit. I'm excited about meeting you and working with you over the next school year.
Required summer reading includes How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster and Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus (full title) by Mary Bysshe Shelley.
Suggested reading includes The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. This will be the first novel we read in class and it would be beneficial for you to get ahead on the reading.
I also suggest marking the text and taking notes during your reading. Your notes may include your personal responses to the text: what did you like, dislike, agree with, not understand, what literary devices did you notice, etc.
