DEUTSCH II - GERMAN II
SYLLABUS
Robert E. Lee High School
Instructor: Elke Schardig
davalose@duvalschools.org
Course: German I
School phone: 381-3930
1st Period conference block: 7:15 AM - 8:50 AM
Course Objective
This course continues a multimedia approach to help
students maintain the language skills learned in
German I. The course continues to develop the
speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills at a
higher level of difficulty. An understanding of the
cultures of the German-speaking countries and their
people continues to be an integral component of the
content, fostering a respect and appreciation for the
diversity of language and culture. The course content
reflects National Standards for Foreign Language
Learning.
German II students will:
• review and expand their vocabulary base and
knowledge of the structures of the German language.
• respond meaningfully in speaking, writing, or
by action to the spoken language in situations
appropriate to the level.
• demonstrate comprehension of reading material
• demonstrate an increased awareness of the
German-speaking cultures and a greater familiarity
with the political and geographical aspects of the
German-speaking countries.
- demonstrate the ability to use the Internet as
a learning tool to access relevant and current
information about the German language and its
cultures.
The course continues to emphasize communicative
competence by focusing on authentic cultural contexts.
The German video series, Deutsch Aktuell, is used to
supplement the instruction. Students are exposed to a
variety of situations in authentic cultural contexts.
Corresponding listening, speaking, reading, and
writing exercises require learners to interact in
natural and meaningful ways. Assignments require
learners to work independently and collaboratively to
achieve the objectives of the course.
Three days a week, I will introduce and demonstrates
new concepts, reviews materials, respond to and asks questions of students.
Student Prerequisites
All students enrolled in German II need to be able to
show successful completion of German I. I also
recommend that students interested in enrolling in
German II complete the German I class.
a. demonstrate self-discipline, maturity and a
willingness to accept the responsibility to work
independently.
b. demonstrate motivation and interest in
learning another language.
Exams/Quizzes

cover reading, writing and listening comprehension and
are administered during the broadcast class. Cultural
material is also tested. There is a comprehensive
final which will count the same as an ordinary test.
Quizzes are given at regular intervals. Students will
be assigned a semester project.
