ATTENTION PARENTS:
Please be sure to check your child's agenda EVERY evening to see what homework they have for the day. There are many students coming to school without completed homework. Not only is homework is counted as 10% of your child's grade it also is either a review of concepts taught in class or it is a preparation for something that we will be doing within the next few class meetings. Please understand that the students do not have a choice as to what homework they complete each night. ALL HOMEWORK, both for Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Oglesby must be completed as assigned. Also, please understand that the excuse of "I had __________(football, cheerleading, soccer, etc.) practice last night, so I couldn't do my homework!" I NOT A VALID EXCUSE. The students must be prepared for class each day! If you have any questions about the homework policy, please do not hesitate to call.
We will be studying combining and comparing large numbers. We will also be working on our skills to add and subtract large numbers with regrouping. We will also work with place value and time with our calendar math. In science we will begin studying animals and food chains.
Please send in 2 liter bottles. We need these for a class project. If your child does not bring in bottles, it will result in the inability to complete the project. This will be a science grade. It does not matter which brand, however, both bottles must be the same brand. Coke and Pepsi do not fit together.
Scholastic book orders are due December 7. Please remember scholastic provides free materials for the classroom with each book order.
Please keep in mind that math investigations is an in class, hands on math curriculum. It is almost impossible to make up the class work missed. Children work on "investigating" math during group sessions. Also, because this requires group work, it is not possible for the children to sit by themselves so they will not be "distracted". I know you want what is best for your child, however sitting by themselves is not an option. Please make sure your child is at school on time. Review begins at 8:30 A.M. sharp. Please keep early dismissals down to emergencies. We do not stop class until 3:50.
Please, every student should have his or her own multiplication flashcards. These can be purchased at Walmart, Dollar General, or bookstores.
