Very Important - Picture Day is Tuesday, Sept. 2.  Due to technical difficulties last week several classes did not have their pictures made. A second day was scheduled and Tuesday is it.  Please dress accordingly.

Well, we finally finished our first full week and it was great.  This is an awesome group of students and I know we are going to have a great year.

Math- We are into our building on numbers you know book. Students were given a booklet to give their parents, that describes what we will be doing.  If you did not receive it, please ask them.  I heard a lot of great math discussions last week.  Students will need to become more comfortable with writing about their math.

Science - We are studying the properties of matter.  If your child has not brought in their three ring binder and a set of dividers they will need to do so this week.

Social Studies - I can tell who studied and who didn't.
Please utilize the flashcards at the top of the page.

Don't forget to look for the mystery word.
Have a safe and fun Labor Day.  See you on Tuesday.

Reminder:  Open House September 11th.

Hope you are all staying safe as we endure Fay's fickleness.  If you have a chance this will be a good time to find out information on hurricanes and tropical storms.
Please remember you have a quiz on the ten states and capitals when we return.  Please click on flashcards to see a complete list of the states and capitals for this week's quiz.
You may also want to check out some of the links listed below.
I hope to see you tomorrow if they reopen the schools.  Please keep an eye on the news and stay safe.

Welcome to the 5th Grade!

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and is ready for an exciting school year.
My name is Ms. Waller and I have been teaching in Duval County for 22 years. I have taught 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. This year I will be teaching your child in Math, Science, and Social Studies.  Your child will go next door to Ms. VanGaasbeek's room for Reading and Language Arts.

School begins bright and early Monday morning at 8:25.
A supply list will go home the first day, along with a newsletter about what you can expect in each of the subjects.

Agendas are very important in the fifth grade. Students will be responsible for writing down homework assignments and having them signed.  Homework will be given Monday through Thursday and is to be turned in each day.  Please feel free to send notes to me in your child's agenda.

School notes is an excellent way for parents to keep up with what is going on in each subject area.  I try to update it weekly. I have also listed links at the bottom of the page that are excellent sources for students to use.  The flashcards are also important as they will have words we are using in class.  A mystery word is posted each week in the flashcards and students are encouraged to go through them and find the mystery word.  The first student to  find the mystery word, write it down in their agenda, have it signed by their parent, and show it to me will receive a treat.

There is a change in lunches this year.  Lunch is now $1.50 full price, $ .40 reduced price.

I look forward to meeting you all on Monday morning.  The only supplies needed for Monday are pencil, paper, and possibly rain gear.

See you tomorrow!
