Just wanted to update you as to any upcoming tests for the last weeks of school. Please see information below for dates of tests. This week 5/12-5/16 is our last week for our regular tests (Reading, Spelling, Grammar, and 100 problem 5 minute timed addition, subtraction, and multiplication fact tests.) The rest of the test schedule for next week is listed below under upcoming test dates. I will be giving assessment tests the last week of school which includes the Reading Benchmark Test and the End of the Year Math Assessment Test. You do not need to study for these at home we will review in the classroom for these tests. If you have any questions please e-mail me at Harry88@juno.com. Tests for the week of 5/12/08 - 5/16/08
Since we are almost at the end of the school year in the next few weeks the children's work load will be increasing. They have all gained in maturity and responsibility this year and this is the final push before they graduate to the fourth grade!!!!
Please use the links above to practice multiplication skills!!!!!!! You can find games and reviews for multiplication and carrying (re-grouping)
5 minute timed multiplication fact tests will still be given every Wednesday until the end of school. I am also going to start giving them the addition and subtraction five minute fact tests so the children can review these facts before the end of third grade. If children do not re-visit what they have learned before they have a harder time retaining the information. Laying the ground work for recall of addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts will assure that your child will be prepared for higher level math.
English Test: Thursday, 5/15/08 Quotations
Reading Test: Friday, 5/16/08 Elena's Serenade
Don't forget to take home reading book on Thursday night to read the story before the test.
Math Test: Wednesday, 5/21/08 Short division. The children will just work simple division problems and check them. To review go to Sadlier Oxford Math website above and click into Chapter 11 links.
Social Studies Test: Tuesday, 5/20/08 Chapter 10 The children will complete the study guide this week in class. It will go home after they complete it. It will be a very simple test.
Science Test: Energy, 5/21/08 This will be based on the worksheets about energy they have been reading. It will be a very simple test. I will send home a short study guide at the end of next week.
ASSESSMENT TESTING LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL:
Benchmark Reading Test: Tuesday,May 27th We will review for this in class. Math Final Assessment Test: Wednesday, May 28th: Given for informational purposes so you can see the skills your child needs to work on during the summer.
END OF THE YEAR INFORMATION!
This week we will be finishing up our reading textbook, our spelling textbook, and our grammar textbook. This week is the last week for our regular Reading, Grammar, and Spelling Tests!!!! The rest of the year will be devoted to review and wrap up of the skills they have learned this year!!!!!!
A date has been set for our Culture Day. It will be on May 28th. This will also serve as our end of the year party!!!! In the next few weeks the children will be talking about their own cultures. They will be creating a recipe book which will include dishes that reflect their cultures. On Culture Day you will be asked to send in their recipe prepared for serving at lunch during our Culture Day Celebration. Our homeroom Mom, Jackie Cerpa, will be contacting you with further details. The children are really looking forward to this project!!!!!!!
If your child has not return the papers about their culture please do so as soon as possible.
Mrs. Cerpa will be contacting people to help out the day of the Culture Day Luncheon. It will take place in the Parish Hall!!!!!!!!

My surgery was postponed until Monday 5/12. I will be out on Tuesday, 5/13, Wednesday, 5/14 and Thursday, 5/15. I will try to come back on Friday, 5/16. It is minor surgery so I hope I can come back on Friday.
Mrs. Scally will be filling in for me and the children will be doing their usual work. All homework etc. will be the same as if I was there! I would have waited until the end of school for the surgery, but, this was the only time the doctor could fit me into the schedule!
