If your child recieved a grade of a D or an F in their Math class for quarter 1, I have assigned them Grade Recovery using the Odyssey program. Below you will find a description of Duval County Grade Recovery policy. Your child will have until the end of the 2nd 9 weeks to complete the entire recovery packet. I have provided a link to Odyssey and your child is expected to work on this at home. Please have them sign on using s+student number as username and the last 4 digits of their social security number for password. If you are not able to log on there is a link at the bottom of the page to help make sure your computer is properly equipped to support the program. Thank you and good luck!
The following is taken from page 42 of the 2008-2009 student progression plan under Section II, GENERAL PROCEDURES/OVERVIEW ENROLLMENT AND PROMOTION WITHIN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL
6. GRADE RECOVERY:
Grade Recovery is meant to assist students who have made an effort to be successful in a course but have failed to make adequate progress to meet standards during a grading period. Grade Recovery is not a vested right automatically conferred upon a student who receives a failing grade.
To be eligible for Grade Recovery, a student:
* must have earned a “D” or “F” as a quarter or final grade;
* must have made a good faith effort to timely perform classroom work or have accepted additional assistance offered to
them during the applicable grading period;
* must have completed all work that was missed due to a violation (or a sanction for a violation) of the Student Code of
Conduct and must comply with the attendance policy as determined in the School Board Policy Manual: File: JH (2)
“Missed work shall be made up for all absences; a day of make-up work shall be allowed for each day of absence, when
appropriate, pursuant to the Student Progression Plan Appendix D. Each student shall receive full credit for such work.”
* must complete Grade Recovery in the district-approved program following procedural guidelines prior to the end of the
following grading period. The time may be extended at the discretion of the principal. Students making less than
satisfactory progress at any point during the 4th quarter must begin immediate recovery and must complete that recovery
prior to the end of the school year, unless the principal determines that an extension of time is appropriate; and
* must not have engaged in plagiarism or cheating specifically identified by the teacher which resulted in the
unsatisfactory grade.
The recovery grade will improve to a “C” when the standards are mastered. A grade of “D” may be assigned if the teacher determines that progress is made toward the standard(s).
When a student transfers to another school, Grade Recovery must be initiated by the parent/student with the sending school. The sending school is responsible for providing the Grade Recovery work, grading and assigning the appropriate grade. The Grade Recovery process of the sending school will apply.

Grading
Each 9 week grade will be based on a point system. Various points will be given for each assignment, and a students letter grade will be consistent with the percentage of the total points that student obtains.
90 or Above = A
80-89%= B
70-79%=C
60-69%=D
0-59%=F
Rubric for A.C.E. Questions
A.C.E. Questions may be assigned for classwork and/or homework. It is graded upon completion, student work, accuracy, and format, with a maximum of 10 points per assignment. The grading rubric for A.C.E. questions is stated below; however if a student shows no work when necessary, he/she will receive no credit.
Category 3 points 2 points 1 point 0 points
Completion Work is 100% complete. It is clear that the student attempted every problem. Work is 70% complete. The student attempted most problems. Work is 30% complete. The student attempted a few problems. No work was turned in.
Student Work Student work is thorough, clear, and legible for all problems. Student included all relevant diagrams. Student shows an adequate amount of work for each problem and it is legible. Student included some relevant diagrams. Student shows some work, but it is inadequate. Student did not include relevant diagrams. Student shows no work.
Accuracy Work is 100% accurate or student has made thorough corrections on all problems. Work is 70% accurate or student has made thorough corrections on some missed problems. All problems are incorrect.
Format Student used lined paper, wrote name, date and period in upper right hand corner, wrote the page number and original problem down, did the necessary work in only two columns, stapled multiple sheets together, and used pencil. Student did not follow the homework format.
