GUM pages 287-294 are due Thursday.  The final book project for the school year was discussed in class today.  It is due Tuesday, May 27.  A sheet was given to students with directions to follow for completing the project. We will not finish The Cay in class until next week, so I recommend students do not choose option 3 or 4 until completing the novel.

Literature books should be returned to me by Tuesday, May 20.  There will be no more homework assignments using this book

GUM pages 279-285 are due Thursday.  Book report #2 is due Tuesday, May 13.  

Progress reports go home Thursday.  I will give students a grade report showing the most up to date grade for my class.

Permission slips for our next field trip will be passed out in class Wednesday.  We are going to the Florida Museum of Natural History to view the Inside Africa exhibit.  The trip is planned for May 21.  The permission slip and $5.00 is due to me by May 14.  This exhibit correlates with Mrs. Beachy's unit on Africa, and we hope all students will participate in this visit to the museum.

GUM pages 192-198 are due Thursday.  Thursday an assignment in the literature book will be discussed.  Students are to read "The Hummingbird" on pages 665-668 and write a summary paragraph of at least six sentences and not more than twelve. This assignment is due Tuesday, May 6.

The next book project is due May 13.

GUM pages 75-81 are due Thursday.  Thursday an assignment in the literature book will be discussed.  Students are to read p.658-662 and answer #1-5 in complete sentences.  This assignment is due Tuesday, April 29.

The next book report was discussed in class today.  A directions sheet was passed out, and the report is due May 13.

We are reading The Journal of Biddy Owens as our One Book, One School project this year.  As a culminating activity we are going to Northeast Park Friday, May 2.  Permission slips have been passed out to students.

The personal narrative writing is due Thursday.
  
We visited the media center Monday to check out books for book report #1 for the new 9 weeks. Students were to choose a mystery or sports fiction book.  I gave students a handout explaining the written report which is due Tuesday, April 22.

I plan to give students a grade printout Thursday with their 9 weeks grade.

On Thursday a writing assignment will be discussed in class.  Students are to write a 400-600 word personal narrative. The writing is due Thursday, March 27.

I still would like to have one or two more parent chaperones for the Wild Adventures trip on April 4.  If you are available, please let me know.

FYI: FCAT testing days are March 11 & 12, March 18 & 19.  Please be sure students get a good nights sleep, eat breakfast, and arrive at school on time.

There will be a quiz tomorrow (Wed.) on chapters 8-11 in Lupita Manana.  GUM pages 175-180 are due Thursday.  Book report #2 is due Thursday.  

Next Tuesday there will be a vocabulary quiz over the words from Lupita Manana.  There is also a voc. review sheet due Tuesday, the day of the quiz.

In class Thursday we will discuss the final book project for the nine weeks. It is due beginning March 13.

We had a great field trip to UF, lunch and Northeast Park.  Thanks to all the parents who assisted.  It was a beautiful day to be outside enjoying our early spring weather!

GUM pages 169-174 are due Thursday 2/21.  Thursday students will be given the last of the vocabulary for Lupita Manana.  The vocabulary assignment will be due Tuesday 2/26.

GUM pages 143-150 are due Thursday.  There is no Thursday homework. Students should be reading a fiction or non-fiction book of choice for the next book report which is due Feb.28.  A sheet providing information on how to write the report was given out in class.

Remind your child Tuesday is our field trip to UF. After a long four day week-end everyone may forget.  Dress comfortably and bring money to buy lunch.

The ethnic book report is due Thursday, Feb. 7.  Voc.#3 is due Tuesday, Feb.12.  Thursday we will discuss the literature book assignment.  Students are to read "Fish Cheeks" p. 134-140.  Answer questions #1-7 on p.141 in complete sentences.  This assignment is due Tuesday, Feb.12.

Permission slips for the Feb.19 field trip are being passed out today in Dr.Doherty's class.  This is an educational trip, and we hope all students will participate.

Voc.#2 was introduced and started in class today.  It is due Tuesday, Feb. 5.  The book report on an ethnic book is due Thursday, Feb. 7.  

Report cards go home Wed. Jan. 30.

In class Wed. Jan. 30 we will use FCAT Explorer which is an online site developed by the Florida Dept. of Education to provide practice for the upcoming FCAT.  Students have the necessary sign in name and password.  I would encourage students to complete a couple of lessons per week at home during the month of February.

In class today there was a vocabulary lesson presented.  Students are to finish the activity at home by next Tuesday, Jan.29.  A sheet was given to students with directions.  Students are to read in the literature book "Names, Nombres" pages 145-148.  A sheet will be passed out in class (Thurs.) with FCAT type questions to answer. This assignment is due Tuesday, Jan.29.  

Students should continue reading their ethnic book.

FYI- Field trip to Engineering Fair at UF is planned for Feb.19.  We will need chaperones.

GUM pages 135-138 are due Thursday.  If students need assistance, look at pages 746, 758 in the back of the literature book.  There is a language handbook.

Students will visit the media center Wednesday to check out books for the first book report of the new nine weeks.  A directions sheet will be passed out and discussed in class concerning the written report which is due February 7th.

A grade printout will be passed out Wednesday.  Students receive a nine weeks grade as well as a semester grade.

Friday and Monday are student holidays.

GUM pages 129-134 are due Thursday.  A science fiction story of 400-600 words is due Tuesday, Jan.15.  I gave students an information sheet on this assignment today.
It counts two grades - one for writing the story and one for sharing it in class Tuesday.

There is a career academy forum at BHS Thursday, Jan 10 from 7:00 - 8:00pm.  The high school career magnet programs will be represented.  It's a great opportunity to start thinking ahead about high school options.  Eastside's IB and GHS's Cambridge will not be a part of this forum.

No GUM pages due this week. I passed out a booklet in class Monday on careers.  We went through several interest type surveys in the booklet.  Students are to write a five paragraph essay on a possible career choice.  The career can be one mentioned in the career booklet, or one the student was previously made aware of through other sources. The essay should include why this career choice might be good for him or her.  

A planning sheet given out in class should be filled in before writing the essay.  The planning sheet and essay are to be turned in on Thursday, Dec.13.  Students placed in the handout section of their notebooks an explanation of five paragraph essays to refer to as needed.

The book project on The Giver is due Tuesday, Dec. 18.
There will be no other homework assignments for next week or over the winter holidays.

No homework will be assigned Thursday, Nov.15 or Tuesday, Nov.20 except for reading a book for the next report.

November calendars will be passed out on Thursday.  November is a very busy month!

Report cards go home Monday, Nov.5.  There is a parent conference evening next Thursday, Nov. 8.  I will let you know the times next week.

Since there are field trips Monday/Tuesday and a band concert Tuesday, I gave the students some of next week's homework early.

GUM pages 46-50 are due Thursday, Oct.25.  There is a scary story due Tuesday, Oct. 30.  It will be shared in class with other students.  I gave students an info sheet today on the writing assignment.

We visited the media center Thursday.  Students checked out science fiction books.  An info sheet on the written report was passed out.  The report is due Nov.13.

GUM pages 35-41 are due Thursday.  I gave students a "cheat sheet" on pronouns to use on this assignment as well as on the test Friday.  Friday's test is over the GUM pages assigned over the past few weeks as well as a reading and writing skills section using FCAT format.

Also due Thursday is a 4-5 paragraph persuasive essay.  We have used the laptops to research the topic. The notes taken in class are due along with the essay.

We will visit the media center on Thursday to check out books for the next book report.  The report is due Tuesday, November 13.  I will give out an info sheet about the report on Thursday.  

I am colleting money this week for team t-shirts.  The cost is $8.00.

We are still accepting Challenge Day permission slips.  Also, Mrs. Beach is collecting money and permission slips for the Tallahassee trip in November.

It was great to have such a wonderful turn out last week for open house.  Thanks to many of you who have sent in things on my wish list!

Students received a permission slip for Challenge Day.  Please return by Friday.  We think this is a very worthwhile experience for our students.

GUM pages 17, 18, 19, 20 are due Thursday.  Thursday's homework is to finish biography book report.  It is due Tuesday, Oct. 2.  The million minutes of reading form is due Friday, Sept. 28 for those students choosing to participate.  Parent signature on the form is required.  Minutes should be totaled.

Remember Open House is Thursday evening from 6:00 until 7:00 in the media center.

GUM pages 13,14,15,16 are due Thursday.  Thursday's homework is to write an essay on drug prevention.  The title is "Drugs Destroy Dreams".  I will give students an info sheet Thursday with guidelines.  The essay is due Tuesday.  I will submit five or ten of the best essays to the Red Ribbon Week essay contest.

Students should be reading the biography book selected at the media center last week.  The report is due 10/2.

Open House is Thursday, September 27 from 6:00pm until 7:00pm.  We will be meeting in the media center.

GUM pages 9, 10, 11, 12 are due Thursday.  There is no assignment in the literature book this week.  Students will visit the media center Wednesday to check out a biography book.  Info on writing book report #2 will be given out in class.  The report on a biography book is due Tuesday, Oct. 2.

There is a test scheduled on the calendar Wednesday for Language Arts.  It is postponed until Friday. The test will cover voc.1 & 2, subjects & predicates, and show not tell paragraphs.

Rd. "Amigo Brothers" in the lit. book pages 245-253.  Answer #1-6 on page 254 in complete sentences.  Make sure you answer all parts of the questions.  This assignment is due Tuesday, Sept. 11.

Million Minutes of Reading will be discussed in class Friday.  It is an optional assignment.  Students participating will have the assignment averaged into the reports/projects portion of their grade.

GUM workbooks were given out in class today.  Pages 2,3,4 are due on Thursday.  Students should leave the workbook at home.  Tear out pages due each week and put into red folder after completion.  A good website to provide extra practice and assistance in completing the GUM workbook pages is gohrw.com

We have written two poems in class.  A final copy of one of them is due Thursday.  Students may chose the one to turn into me.

Thursday's homework assignment is in the literature book. Read "The No Guitar Blues" on pages 217 - 222.  I will pass out an elements of a short story paper to be filled in by students.  This assignment is due Tuesday, Sept.4.

Don't forget the book report is due Tuesday, September 11th.  If your child did not complete a novel over the summer, he or she should be reading one NOW.

WELCOME 7th grade Advanced Language Arts students and parents.  I hope you will find this site useful.  I will update homework assignments each Tuesday.

Tuesday's homework assignment is due Thursday.  Students will interview a student in class Tuesday.  Students are to take the information and write two paragraphs about the student interviewed.  The paragraphs will be shared and collected in class Thursday.

Information on the first book report will be passed out in class Tuesday.  This report is due Tuesday, Sept. 11.  

Thursday's homework assignment is due Tuesday of next week.  I will issue Elements of Literature books Thursday.  Students are to read p.206-211 "A Mason- Dixon Memory".  After reading, answer questions #1-4 on p. 213 in complete sentences.  Also draw and fill in the "Review the Text" chart on p.213.
