Welcome to the 2008- 2009 school year. I am looking forward to an educational and fun school year with your students and am also looking forward to meeting and establishing a connection with the parents to help ensure a productive school year for my students.
Things my students and their parents should know.
School Supplies:
The materials that will be used on a daily basis will be the students notebook and a pen. Each student should acquire three one subject notebooks. My class will be very heavy on note-taking. It is important for students to have a dedicated notebook for science to help keep their notes organized and easy to find. The preferred writing utensil for my class will be a blue or black ink pen. The only time pencils/colored pencils will be used in my class will be during tests that require the use of scantron, and drawing diagrams for notes or assignments. All quizzes, notes, tests, and assignments need to be completed with a blue or black ink pen.
Behavior:
All of my students should understand the basic concepts of manners. If they do not demonstrate basic manners in the classroom, I will be correcting their behavior with the appropriate discipline. If they continue to not demonstrate basic manners, then I will be calling home to work with their parents in correcting the problem.
My definition of basic manners:
TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WISH TO BE TREATED: This is the most important rule I have. If you want respect you need to treat others with with respect.
Please and Thank You: These two phrases will get you a long way with me. Use them and you are more likely to get the response that you want.
Clean up after yourself: I am not your parent. I will not clean up after you. You make a mess, clean the mess.
Be courteous: People are in class to learn. If you do not wish to further advance yourself, then do not get in the way of other people living up to their potential. Distractions that require me to take time away from teaching will not be tolerated and will result in me giving you extra homework. If you waste the time of myself and the other students in the classroom, then I will waste the time you have outside of school. This all goes back to treating others as you wish to be treated.
Come to class prepared: All I ask from you on a daily basis is a notebook and pen. It shouldn't be difficult to bring these two items to class everyday.
If any of my students or parents would like to add to this list of manners, please feel free to send me an email with your suggestion.
What you can expect from schoolnotes.com:
Schoolnotes.com is a great tool to keep a close tab on what's going on in your students classroom. It's convenient, easy to use, and if you have a hectic schedule it's a simple way to stay in touch.
Along with the convenience it brings, schoolnotes.com is an educational tool that allows schools to become more "green". Rather than making hundreds of copies of the same document, teachers can post material, notes home, flyers, and anything else onto schoolnotes.com and you can have access to it on your PC at the house or office. The science department has made it a specific goal to help spearhead the attempt to make Glades Middle as green as possible. I encourage all parents and students to make every attempt possible to utilize schoolnotes.com and other "green" resources that are available to them.
