SYLLABUS

Economics will provide students the opportunity to learn about the way in which society organizes and distributes its natural resources to satisfy its unlimited wants. Students will be introduced to the concept of a mixed economy and how the economic questions of how, what, and for whom are answered.  Content will include using economic principles such as tradeoffs, economic incentive, division of labor, saving and investing, and the role of citizens, government and money the function of our economy.

NOTE:  ˝ credit of Economics is required for graduation.  This course is paired with American Government.

All content will meet the Florida Sunshine State Standards and its’ benchmarks.

There is a mid-term examination as well as a final examination.  Interim reports will be assessed as deemed by the school board.  Students are always encouraged to ask the instructor on their achievement in the classroom, however it is their responsibility to have the initiative to make up any missing work. Grade sheets can be e-mailed to students on an individual basis.  Students caught cheating or plagiarizing will not only receive a zero on their work, but will also be subject to administrative action.

Quarter grades will be based on a total points system.  Points will come from a combination of tests, class assignments, research projects, and homework & class participation.  Late work will be accepted at 50% of its original value.  The Broward County School’s grading system will be applied.  Extra credit will be offered.  Students who consciously choose not to participate in any assignment will be given a grade of zero and will not be allowed to complete the assignment at a later date.  Detentions may be given to students who distract from the instructional flow of information.

89 - 85 = B+
84 - 80 = B
79 – 75 = C+
74 – 70 = C
69 – 65 =D+
64 - 60 = D
59 -  0 = F
