Week of April 27 (Term 4, Week 4)

Agenda 10--You work for an advertising agency.  Select a business (store, restaurant, sports franchise, etc.) and design the following promotional items for the business you select.  Use the SAME BUSINESS for Assignments 1-4.

Remember, sometimes less is more!!!  Don't confuse your reader by including too much information, graphics, etc.  Put your name in a small textbox in the lower right corner of the document.  Be creative and professional--not tacky!

--Avoid using underlining because this distracts the reader).
--Reduce your top, bottom, left and right margins to .5 so that you have more space to work with.
--Put your name in a small textbox in the lower right corner of the document.

I will expect you to display REAL computer skills when creating these documents.  These exercises should demonstrate your skill in using the picture, word art, drawing, formatting, and standard toolbars.

Assignment 1: Design a ½ page flyer (8 ½ x 5 ½); Save as Flyer1. Create a promotion/sale that will be offered to valued customers.  This promotional flyer will be handed to customers that visit the business and must include some sort of coupon that the customer will tear out to take advantage of the promotional offer/sale.  When you are finished with the ½ page flyer, highlight and group your flyer so that you can copy and paste the flyer on the bottom of your page in the blank space. You should be able to print two flyers on one page.

Assignment 2: Design a flyer; Save as Flyer2. Using the same company in Assignment 1, pick a product or product line sold by your company to advertise/feature in this flyer. This promotional flyer will be mailed to local residents with the letter you will create in Assignment 4.  The flyer's goal will be to get people to visit the business and purchase the particular product the flyer features.  Be sure to include the company name, local address (street address, city, and state) and the phone number.

Assignment 3: Create a letterhead for the business you selected in Assignment 1. See the sample letterheads in class. This letterhead will be used for all business correspondence sent out by the company.  Create the letterhead in the HEADER of the document so this information will print at the top of the page (keep the letterhead to 2" or less). Include the Company name, street address, city and state where that business is located, phone number, fax number, and web address in the letterhead.  Put your name in a footer at the bottom of the document.

Assignment 4:  Write a letter to local customers encouraging them to visit your store to take advantage of the special promotion you are offering on the products you featured in Assignment 2 Flyer.  Write the letter on the letterhead you created in Assignment 3. Use block letter style and be sure to vertically center your letter before printing.  If you want, you may put your name as the writer and make up a job title. This letter will be mailed to customers along with the Flyer 2.

EXTRA CREDIT:  The company you selected is sponsoring a fund raising event for a nonprofit organization (a charity such as The American Cancer Society). Create an advertisement to publicize the event (you may select any nonprofit organization and make-up your own fund raising event).  This advertisement will be published in the local newspaper and posters/billboards will be made of the advertisement to publicize the event throughout the county.  The ad should include all important information about the event(date, location, time, cost).  Keep in mind that you should not write paragraphs of information on the ad.  People will not want to read the ad if it contains too much writing. Keep to the facts--attract attention to the ad and give the details.  Space the information out to fill the page (you decide on the orientation of the ad--portrait or landscape).  Put your name in a small textbox in the lower right corner of the document.

Attach Assignment 1-4 (and the extra credit assignment) to a grade sheet and submit for a grade.

Week of April 20 (Term 4, Week 3)

*Check Writing Project Part I & II (Due on Friday); read and follow all directions on the handouts.  Turn in Part I and II stapled to the rubric.  Read the rubric before printing and turning in your project.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT:  Standard School Policy regarding behavior and dress code as described in the Code of Conduct Book will apply.  In addition, the following rules have been developed to ensure a successful learning environment.

•Respect and professional behavior toward teacher and classmates must be displayed at all times. Positive attitudes are extremely important for success on the job, promotions, raises, etc. The classroom is a training ground for the way you will behave on the job.  Treat others as you would like to be treated.

•Come to class prepared (folder, pen, pencil, etc.).  No visits to lockers for any reason.  You cannot show up for work, and then ask your manager to go home for something.

•NO IPODS, MP3 players, head phones, cell phones ETC are to be used in class.

•Cells phone are to remain off and in a students backpack or purse.

•Students must sit in the assigned seat the entire period.

•Passes are limited to 2 per grading period.

•Due to the importance of our curriculum, students will not be permitted to play computer games, surf the web, visit chat rooms, or check personal e-mail.  If time permits, students may utilize the FCAT practice tutorial on the computer to prep for this exam.  Extra credit assignments will always be available.  Unauthorized use of the computer is when a student uses the computer for anything other than the assigned class work.  The student will receive a ZERO for each occurrence.

•Due to the expensive equipment in the classroom, absolutely NO EATING AND DRINKING is permitted.

•To keep our classroom LOOKING GOOD, please leave your work area extremely neat before leaving class.  If you see something that needs cleaned-up—do it!!  This attitude shows initiative, and is exactly what employers are looking for in good employees.  Those with initiative get the promotions and the raises.  An “it’s not mine” or “I didn’t do it” attitude is unacceptable.

•Take care of the computers as if your life depends on it.  Under no circumstances are you permitted to download programs, delete programs, or change the settings.  Do not abuse, write on, disconnect, etc. the computers.  Moving a mouse or keyboards to a different machine is not permitted.  Failure to comply with this request will result in a REFERRAL.

•Remain in your seat until the bell—I will dismiss class when all students are sitting quietly and the classroom is in order.

•Combing hair, putting on make-up, or perfume in class is unprofessional and not permitted in class.  These activities should be done in the restrooms.
