Some of the students in the STAR test appeared as second graders although they are first graders because they started taking the test in PRE-K. Please pay attention to the highlighted score. If it is 1.0 and up we are doing good. 1.0 indicates first grade. The number after the decimal indicates the month within the school year. For example, at the end of September we should be at around 1.1 or higher.

• Look through the pictures you have at home. Choose a picture that shows a family event or a favorite activity you did with your family. You will be using this picture to write a newspaper or magazine article on the family event (You will do this on a separate sheet of paper. It may look like the sample provided but you may do it differently. Creativity should always be practiced.) - Due on Monday.
• Write a title for your article.
• Write your spelling words in ABC order.
• Read for 15 minutes. Write down the title of the story you read.
Wednesday:
• Open House
• Study your sight words. You might want to make flash cards and play sight word memory with the following words: (and, here, too, not, we).
• Read for 15 minutes. Write down the title of the story you read.
Thursday:
• Start writing you article. Remember to include who, what, when, where, why. This is going to be presented in class. (For example: The Stevenson Family Reunion took place on August 27, 2007. There were over 20 members there. It took place at Tropical Park. There were many games for all of the children and lots of food. It was done to share laughs and special moments with loved ones. Please remember to add details.)

Friday:
• Study for your Spelling Test on Monday.

In addition, we will be discussing our different interests and how these help us to form groups. In Science we are continuing to learn about life cycles. This week we will focus on the butterfly life cycle.
