Online Glencoe Textbook Program (opportunity for a lot of extra practice):  
I. click on the Glencoe Mathematics
link, see Chapter Resources, click on Chapter Readiness,click on Chapter 1, do the 10 questions and email the results to yourself.......see next paragraph.  
II. click on the Glencoe Mathematics link, see Lesson Resources, click on Self-Check Quizzes—FCAT By Lesson, click on Chapter 2 -  see all the Self-Check Quizzes and Chapter Test for Chapter 2. Do these after the lessons are taught in class. Email the results to yourself.

EXTRA CREDIT  

You can earn up to three extra credit A or B or C (only if it increases your GPA) grades
                for the 1st grading period.

FCATexplorer is ready for you! Get your sign in name and password in class during week 7.
For this 1st grading period complete 8th grade FCAT problems for this section:
HISTORY BY NUMBERS. You will find three groups:  1. The Olympics, 19 questions total;
2. The Census, 13 questions total;  3. The Making of the U.S., 18 questions total.
For each group you could receive an EC A, if you complete 70% of these problems correctly on first attempt. You could receive an EC B, if you complete 60% correctly on first attempt. You could receive an EC C, if you complete 50% correctly on first attempt.
Completion Deadline is October 17, 2008.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

Bring daily: 3-ringed plastic coated 1 inch notebook (no duotangs), paper, pencils,
pencil sharpener, (mechanical pencil with refills preferred),  highlighter, red pen, zippered pouch, 6'' ruler,  
4 dividers with titles of of : 1. Homework   2. warm-ups/FCAT practice   3.Notes and Definitions  4.Classwork
Every day bring  four function [ +, -, x, : ] calculator!                                                              
                    
CLASSROOM PROCEDURE

Upon entering the classroom you will accomplish four things before the tardy bell rings:
1. Have red pen ready
2. Open to completed homework
3. Have paper ready for warm-up problems/FCAT practice
4. Sit ready and quiet in assigned seat

Every day be ready to start and finish classwork exercises/problems on time!
On all classwork have KEY on right margin of your paper.
Work in a neat and organized manner!

Dear Parents:

We are pleased to inform you that the Florida Department of Education offers students in Florida’s public school system access to an educational Web site called the FCAT Explorer. This free resource is designed to help your child practice reading, math, and science skills outlined in the Sunshine State Standards. Currently, the FCAT Explorer offers reading programs for 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th grades, math programs for 5th, 8th, and 10th grades, and science programs for 5th grade. You can find the FCAT Explorer on the Internet at www.fcatexplorer.com. Your child’s classroom teacher will provide your child with a sign-in name and password.

The FCAT Explorer practice programs provide your child with practice questions and other educational materials that strengthen the skills measured by the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) for reading, math, and science. The FCAT Explorer provides a creative, exciting context for your child’s learning experience while reinforcing subject areas such as science and history.

About FCAT Explorer:

•    The FCAT Explorer is available to all Florida public school children, their teachers, and their parents.
•    Children can access the FCAT Explorer from computers at school or at home.
•    The FCAT Explorer includes a Parent and Family Guide, offering practical advice and focused activities for parents, guardians, and mentors who want to help children succeed.
•    The FCAT Explorer is free. There is no cost to students, teachers, schools, or school districts.

For your child to use the FCAT Explorer at home, your home computer must meet the technical requirements listed below. If you have any questions concerning these technical requirements or the use of the FCAT Explorer, please contact the FCAT Explorer Help Desk toll-free at 1-888-750-3228 or click on the “Contact Us” e-mail link available on the FCAT Explorer Web site.
