COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to provide an introduction to information technology concepts and careers as well as the impact information technology has on the world, people, and industry. The contents include information technology career research, operating systems and software applications, electronic communications including e-mail and Internet services, basic HTML, XHTMS, DHTML, and XML commands, emerging technologies, and Web design.

HOMEWORK POLICY:
Homework will be assigned on the first day of the week. The assignment must be completed by the last day of the week in which the class meets. For every homework not turned in, student will receive two failing grades.
EVALUATION:
Students will be evaluated in this course and given grades in accordance with Miami-Dade County Public Schools grading scale. Course grade will be based on grades earned from exams, quizzes, assignments, projects and class participation.

TEACHER/STUDENT/PARENT COMMUNICATION:
You are responsible for checking your class Web Page on a daily basis.
Important information/announcements will be posted here.
1. Come to class prepared to work. Bring your lab notebook and pen/pencil.
2. Food, candy, gum and beverages may not be consumed in the lab.
3. Listen to and follow instructions the first time given.
4. Be courteous to the teacher and fellow students.
5. Your name and date must be on all papers turned in for credit. If your name is not on the paper, you will not receive credit.
6. Your Lab notebook must contain the following tabs:
Tab 1 Computer Lab Rules of Conduct and Procedures and the Acceptable Use Policy for the Use of the Internet
Tab 2 Class notes and assignments
Tab 3 Concepts lists/ Handouts
7. Do not shut down your computer, change computer settings (i.e. screen savers, backgrounds, mouse settings, etc.) unless directed to do so by the teacher.
8. RESPECT SCHOOL PROPERTY! Treat hardware and software with care. You are responsible for your assigned workstation. Problems with equipment and/or software must be reported to the teacher immediately.
9. Do not install or download software unless instructed to do so by the teacher.
10. Do not copy software. Software piracy (copying or transferring software registered to the school or someone else) is strictly prohibited.
11. Obtain teacher permission before printing.
12. Keep your password confidential and remember it. You are not to use someone elses User ID to log on to the system. Do not change password assigned to you. If I cannot access your network, you will receive a failing grade for that weeks assignments.
13. Homework is due at the beginning of the period. If you forgot to turn in the homework, you may turn it in the following day. Please be advised that the highest grade you can receive for the late assignment is a C.
14. Games are not allowed in the computer lab. This violates the schools acceptable use policy and is illegal. If you are caught loading or downloading a game, the disks or CDs will be taken away and a discipline referral will be submitted to the assistant principal.
15. Cheating is a serious offense; this includes copying materials from a classmate or their computer with or without their knowledge. If caught, you will receive a 0 on the assignment and your parent/ guardian will be contacted and a referral will be submitted to the assistant principal.
Failure to follow these rules/ procedures will result in the following:
1. First offense Warning
2. Second offense Loss of computer privileges, with no class time to make up work. Arrangements will be made with the instructor for making up work before or after school
3. Third offense - Detention and a call home
4. Fourth offensive Referral to administrator for the further disciplinary action
