Dear Parents,
I have added some great web-sites to keep your children reading and academically engaged during the summer months. Also don't to visit your neighborhood library for fun and exciting programs being offered free of charge.

SMART tutoring
The Miami-Dade Public Library System offers free tutoring through the SMART program. This program is for children from Kindergarten-12th grade and consists of one hour of free tutoring. At Kendale Lakes Library for the 2009-2010 school year, the tutoring will be provided every Saturday from 10am- 1pm. Tutoring is done by contracted Miami-Dade County Public School teachers in a group study format. To register, parents can stop by one of our libraries and fill out a registration card starting June 9th until all slots are full. A guaranteed spot in the program is on a first come- first serve basis.
SUMMER READING PROGRAM FACT SHEET
The Miami-Dade Public Library System will run it’s annual Summer Reading Program this year from June 13th- July 25th. This year’s themes are Be Creative (for children) and Express Yourself (for teens). This is an incentive program for youth from birth through 18 years old promoting the importance of reading.
How it works:
1. Youth sign up at their local branch and pick up their first reading log (just for signing they get a prize!)
Once the youth has completed 4 hours of reading or has been read to for 4 hours, they complete a grand prize entry ticket and return it to their local branch. When a youth has turned in their first grand prize entry ticket, they receive a pass to the Miami Metro Zoo. Since we’re Going Green, each reading log has 6 grand prize entry tickets, each ticket represents 4 hours of reading or being read to.
Each library will have a weekly raffle. All grand prize entry tickets turned in before the first raffle go into the first week’s raffle drawing. All the grand prize entry tickets turned in after the first drawing, go into the second week’s raffle drawing and so on. However all grand prize entry tickets turned in during the entire six weeks of the program go into the grand prize drawing @ the end of the summer reading program. Remember to encourage youth that the more they read, the better chance they have at winning a grand prize.
4. New to this year's program is the opportunity for youth to receive one extra grand prize entry ticket for each youth program that that they attend at the library.
