Our Weekly Production:
4/14-4/18

The students have worked hard to create, practice and plan scripts for the end of the year show.  This year’s theme is the Somerset Academy Award, so make sure to dress your best this will be a Red Carpet event and you wouldn’t want the fashion police talking about you! The show will be on Saturday, May 31st.  The students are extra excited for the show this year because they have had a real opportunity to lead and make decisions about their performance.  Developing these scripts has challenged their reading/writing skills and improved their social skills.
In Math we have be reviewing Multiplication and Division.  In Science we have been learning about properties of Earth. The students had an opportunity to choose their own Narrative, Expository or Persuasive writing this week.  Please be aware that next week the students will be given a research project based on a country of their choice.  The specifics of the project will be given to the students as they go through the various stages.
Next Thursday, April 24th is Take Your Child To Work Day!  Please let me know by Wednesday if your child will be participating in this valuable real life experience with you.  I will send them home with the packet they will need to complete while being at your work.  That day is an Early Release day.  Also, on that evening we are having a Kaboom’s Family night.  Please try to make arrangements to attend, I would love to see, skate and play games with your families!

2007-2008

Dear parents and students,
Welcome (or welcome back) to another star studded school year at Somerset Academy-Davie.   I am thrilled to see all of you and to be teaching 3rd/4th grade.  This year’s classroom theme is “Center Stage”. I have planned many magnificent but challenging activities in order to support your child’s social/academic growth throughout the school year.  We have a lot of material to cover this year and the following schedule will be STRICTLY enforced and monitored.

Director: Ms. Fuentes

11:00-12:00    INTERMISSION (lunch/P.E.-recess)

Act 2

(Tuesday and Thursday    computer/library from 1-1:30pm)
1:45-2:00            Finale

*The students will be given ample time to finish each scene within the allotted timeframe.  Students will be rewarded with an admission ticket for completing each Act. If a child does not complete Act 1 they will take 15 minutes from their intermission to finish.  There is NO time for students to fall back in their classwork!  In addition, if incomplete classwork and/or behavior become persistent, a note will be attached to the planner providing you with specific information.  This note will need to be signed and brought back to school on the following day, or your child will miss 15 minutes of intermission.

Classroom Code of Conduct:
•    We will be polite at all times.
•    We will work quietly and not disturb others.
•    We will listen courteously when others are talking.
•    We will be friendly to fellow classmates.
•    We will be truthful and honest.
•    We will respect our teacher and other adults.
•    We will be prepared for class every day.
•    We will arrive at class on time.
•    We will cooperate with others.
•    We will always do our best.

**Rewards will be developed with all cast members within the first week of school.  Their input is important to me!

Procedures:

Morning Routine:
•    After entering the classroom, students need to take out all homework folders and composition books and organize them in their desk.  Then, place their backpacks and lunch boxes in cubbies.  They will sharpen their pencils and begin the AM work-scene 1 that is written on the board.
•    Students need to hold on to any money/notes until I ask for them as part of the morning routine.  Please do not give it to me or leave it on my desk.  Please make sure that any money turned in has the child’s name and purpose of the money on it.

Homework:
•    Homework is given on a daily basis to reinforce skills that were covered in class.
•    The students are responsible for copying their homework off the board and into their planner.
•    Expect to see daily spelling, writing, math and language assignments go home.  There will be no homework on Friday unless we have a short week and something needs to be completed.
•    The homework will not count as an academic grade, however, I do keep track of who does their homework and it is counted as an effort grade.  There will also be admission tickets given for completion of homework assignments as well as consequences for incomplete assignments.

Consequences of No Homework:
•    If the student does not turn in a homework assignment they will automatically lose a portion of recess.  During this time the student will have a chance to complete the homework assignment.
•    If the student has an excessive amount of “no homework”, I will call or meet with the parents to express my concerns and resolve this problem.
•    If your child did not do his/her homework due to illness, a more serious matter or incomplete due to a lack of understanding please meet with me and we will discuss the matter or write me a note that day.

Book Reports/Projects:
•    Students will be given a book report and/or project every month.  It is important that students learn to manage their time wisely and not delay in beginning to work on the projects.  Failure to complete projects on a regular basis, as well as, on time due to poor time management is unacceptable and can result in a lowered grade point average.
•    Projects are not optional.  When necessary, individual projects will be modified in order to meet student’s ability.
Consequences of No Book Reports/Projects:
•    One day late = grade is dropped by one letter
•    Two days late = grade is dropped by two letters
•    Three or more days late = the project will not be accepted and the student will receive a failing grade for this project.

Absent/Tardy:
•    School begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. and students are considered tardy after 8:05 a.m.
•    If student is tardy he/she must let the teacher know right away, so their lunch order can be placed.

I know we will have a wonderful year filled with learning and lots of fun times.  Thank you in advance parents and students for your cooperation.  I look forward to working with you and your child.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at (954)584-5528 or at cfuentes@somersetdavie.com.

Thank you.
Ms. Fuentes
