1. Introduce journal procedures. Students are required to write daily in their journal upon entering the classroom. The journal remains in the classroom.

1. PH Literature, Read "Papa's Parrot", pp. 437-442; Complete p. 437, character analysis activity. Read the selection, complete p. 442-questions. Review subj/predicate in BK textbook. Literature books were assigned to students to take home today. Students are to bring books back and forth to school daily. We also reviewed subj/predicates in BK textbook in class. Students will take test on reading selection when they come to class next time. Read carefully!

Students will take the selection test when they come to class on Friday. Also study in BK pp. L3-L12. Test Tuesday over these pages.All incomplete asssignments are homework and due the next class period.

STUDENTS IN ALL CLASSES NEED TO STUDY THE GRAPHIC ORGANIZER (semantic web) that they created for non-fiction elements from the Prentice Hall Literature textbook--Introductory pages IN 4-5. Next week students who have me on silver days will be studying Lesson 9 vocabulary words and all classes (silver and gold days) will continue to read/study nonfiction in the literature textbook. In Prentice-Hall Literature book, read, study, complete questions about the selection: "The Cat Who thought she was a Dog and the Dog Who Thought He was a Cat", pp. 4-13. Complete individually assigned questions. Study "elements of fiction" on pp. xxvi and IN1-3. Review and reproduce your own semantic web with the analysis of fiction elements. Study nightly until tested the week of January 19th. Check agenda for specific test dates. Review and study transitions from handouts. Practice writing topic and supporting sentences using transitional phrases. Review clauses from BK textbook. Use index to find page numbers.

PH Literature: Complete open book test over "Stolen Day", complete multiple para essay for #13 of the essay questions in addition to 1-11 of the short answer questions. All are due on Tuesday or Wednesday at the close of each class period. Then take "Stolen Day" comprehension selection test with one short essay to complete. Review focus skills: point of view, author's purpose. Then do the exercises assigned each class period on the selection support workbook. See agenda assignment daily for specific pages. Study for the the test over "adverbs" on Thursday and Friday. '

FCAT TESTING-TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY Morning
Monday--Vocabulary Lesson 16 words, Complete "Informational Text" lessons in PH Lit, pp. 234-241. Study elements of informational text and cause and effect. Study prepositions, in BK text, Complete pp. L189-L193, prepositional phrases. Prepare for FCAT by getting a good night's sleep and eating a healthy breakfast. The Last block of each FCAT testing day will be spent completing the assignments for informational text and prepositional phrases.
NOTE: If you have allergies, a cold, or persistent sinus problems, you will need to bring Kleenex for your own personal use as we have none available in the classroom !!!!!!
MARCH 23,24,25,26,27
Students are to continue working on "Cat on the Go" in Prentice Hall literature, pp. 340-350. They will take the selection test and then complete the reading strategies exercises. They will also be working on learning how to write a persuasive essay. We will review "using transitions". In BK English textbook, pp. L217, "Verbals". Students should read/study and complete these exercises this week and the week following Spring Break. Test over "verbals" the week of April 6th. Advanced classes have vocabulary 17 this week. Please check student agenda for specific assignments. Students with extra time accomodations should be sure to ask for extra time before the assignment is due.
