/18 Welcome new 7th graders, to the Hurricanes team. Parents: So many new things to fill you in on. We are the Hurricaneas team... Violet Trawick, Reading, is our team leader... Mark Lockwood, Math Cinthia Sweat, Social Studies, Elizabeth Long, L.Arts, and me DaleAnne Bearb, Science. Some of us use this site quite regularily, some sparingly, HOWEVER... we ALWAYS get relevant information out to you on a regular basis. Mrs. Sweat and I are the team AGENDA "gurus"... our major form of communication is the agenda, and then either e-mails or phone calls. The kids will be getting their agendas and "first day packets" on Monday... you are responsible for going through all that paperwork INCLUDING the Student Code and Conduct book... * on the last few pages you'll find the forms both you AND your child will have to sign, then, return all necessary signed forms to their FIRST PERIOD teacher. At Open House, we will have a team meeting with all of you and will each give you the specifics for our classes and an overview of what goes on in HURRICANES 7th grade. The kids have already been introduced to us if they were at MMS last year, so they already have a Heads Up as to what we are about. Tomorrow is Orientation.. you'll be free to pick up their schedule, visit the classrooms, and buy their school uniform shirts @ $10.00 a pop! We are also asking all of you to become active with our PTSA organization.. $5.00/year, and ample opportunities to help on campus.. chaperoning, field trips, mentoring, teacher assisting, ANOTHER SET OF EYES FOR ME FOR MY CLASSROOM LABS., helping with paperwork... bringing in our community, guest speaking... and the list goes on and on. Whatever you feel you can help out with, WE NEED YOU!!!!!!!!!!! even if it is only an hour or two.... every bit helps! We are still on an 8 hour day... 45 min. each.... YES, WE DO GIVE HOMEWORK but, NOT every class, every day.... it's up to the kids to write in their agenda so you can monitor their progress. If there is a special need or concern you feel the team needs to be aware of, contact Guidance and we will accomodate you with a parent conference. We can't set up the conferences... the parents have to. Grades???? real time, IF you sign up to be on Parent Viewer... Mrs. Nelson, the office secretary or our 7th grade Guidance Counselor, Hansi Braddock, will be more than happy to set-you up with that tool on the computer. We need to have current and accurate infomation for the Emergency cards... daytime and evening numbers... names of parents/guardians to contact, any medical issues we need to be aware of, things such as that. This year, students will be dismissed by BUS Number, so we have to have that information as well on file and in their 8th per. classrooms. DRESS CODE,,, please pay strict attention to what IS and IS NOT allowed... at the 4th uniform infraction, it rolls over into a MAJOR REFERRAL. It's the same policy for tardies.... So, overall, it's going to be a tougher adjustment for all of us, especially the kids. When in doubt... contact us.... looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. Dale Bearb Science
/16 Hey there! Well, it has been an interesting first three weeks of school. So far, the kids are transitioning pretty well for me. We have covered lab. safety, POLK COUNTY SAFETY RULES,safety equipment and SI International Science Safety Symbols. Now, we are going into Scientific processes and Method. I assigned each class a lab. to do AT HOME. Only the advanced class work is due this Friday, all he other
classes are due next TUESDAY. *Students don't have school on Monday because it is a Teacher workday. They are to do the experiment, and bring in the 8 step write-up for the homework... NOT THE ACTUAL LAB. Please help them with this first time out, so to speak, with the write-up. They have the template, with their notes... Every Friday they have a combined content vocab. test in Language Arts. Last week they recieved their first interim... look for them every 2 weeks from now on. I usually put their avg. in the agenda on the Fridays for the "inbetween interims" weeks. As a team, we'd like to remind you your child needs to be filling in their agenda every day for the 5 core classes and we are requesting one parent/guardian signature a week. If you see any teacher note in the agenda, good or bad, PLEASE sign it so we know you are aware of that particular situation. We depend on the agenda as being our first line of communication with you, and visa versa. Already, we are seeing several notes not signed.... please help us to make this year a successful year for your child. VOLUNTEERS????? We need you. Simply register with the front office... all of us could use a helping hand in one way or another.... even if it's just 20 min. a week, to staple packets together... that's how simple it can be. I can always use an extra pair of eye for my labs. BOXTOPS for EDUCATION PLEASE save them for us.... we get 10 cents for every one we turn in, it all goes to PTSA, which is the "activity" organization for the school... dances, the carnival, Gold Ticket, AR store, etc. is all funded by PTSA, NOT MR. YOUNG. Please consider joining if you haven't. I think that's about it for right now. Enjoy your day.... and thanks for logging on. Dale Bearb Scienc
/20 Good morning. Students have been assigned their Science Fair projects. Each was supposed to turn in their topic for approval and discussion. Several didn't. It is going to be a 150 point assignment. Each was given a "trifold" to do the work on, and a packet with the grading rubric and lay-out for the trifold. There must be at least 2 sources for research about their project, and that is to come in with the trifold, in a separate folder. The due dawtes are as follows. 1st and 2nd periods Nov. 9th 3rd, and 6th pers. Nov. 10th, and 5th, 7th and 8th pers... Nov. 11th Our school fair will be Dec. 8th, 6:00, in the cafeteria for all to view. Our curriculum right now is CLASSIFICATION. Students have been discussing ETHICS and the 7 steps of classification, with asigned graphing homework. Overall, they students seem to be better prepared for my class as we continue going through 7th grade material and expectations. Keep viewing the agendas and sign any "teacher" notes you might view. If there is a concern, feel free to contact the office to set up a conference with the team of teachers. This Thursday is our SPORTS JERSEY Day. For $1.00, they can dress out... the money goes towards Relay for Life which supports cancer research. There is NO SCHOOL this Friday, it is a teacher workday. Mulberry has 2 Halloween celebrations going on this Saturday. One is in downtown Mulberry, and you must buy tickets for the games, by True Grits restaurant...the other is at the sports park behind Wal-Mart... $5.00 admission. I will NOT be checking agendas this week due to the shortened week. FYI The marking period ends on the 28th.... encourage your child to get in any missed work or ask for extra credit if they have below a C average at this point. Thanks, and have a great day. 11/6 Just a few quick things before I head out for the weekend. NEXT WEEK the SCIENCE FAIR PROJECTS are due. Mon., first and second pers. Tues., 3rd and 6th pers. Weds., 5th, 7th and 8th pers. We all have been working with the kids to make sure they meet these deadline dates. Please see that the projects are set up as described on my packet on the trifolds, and that there is a separate folder with at least 2 pages of research on their topic, with the assigned bibliographies for the 2 required sources. They recieved INTERIMS today * for this quarter so far, next Tuesday is report card day. During today's agenda check, I notiiced over half the kids did NOT have a parent signature for the week. PARENTS, please view and sign the agendas. We often put notes in them for you regarding an issue we need your help and support with. It is a graded assignment every Friday, worth 20 points in my class. Several students have racked up 4 or more uniform infractions.. that means a MAJOR REFERRAL to discipline and I will be making several phone calls home this weekend to inform you of the team action regarding this issue. My curriculum is CELLS for the next few weeks... they had homework last night, but only 18 were turned in from the 4 classes I collected them from. That should tell you we are having a problem with the kids doing homework and being responsible. PLEASE help us. Happy weekend. Dale Bearb Science
/30 Just a few things to consider. Next Monday, the judging for the Sci. Fair will take place in the Media Center. THURSDAY NIGHT 6-8 will be the Parent Night viewing of the fair in the Cafeteria... pizza and soda will be served. We KNOW the students worked hard on these projects and would love for you to come out and view them. This Thursday is picture retake day. It applies to all new students to the school and any student who was absent the day the pictures were taken for the yearbook. In regards to the Sci. Fair projects, since SEVERAL students didn't bother to do a project for me, the Friday before Thanksgiving break, they were given an alternative assignment to do in place of the project. Right now, they are sitting with a 0/150 points... the alternative assignment will take the place of the original project... however, it is due no later than the 2nd week of December, and will be worth 150 points. Next week, they will be taking the second Science assessment FAIR test... in total, they will take it 3 times.. to check for core knowledge of the 7th grade Life Science curriculum. UNIFORMS!!!!! I wrote up 8 already, and I only saw 4 periods... please remind them to have it together, for school. Thanks reminder: agenda check EVERY Friday, with a parent/guardian signature... 20 points averaged in to their grade EVERY WEEK.... need to go, the bell just rang. Dale Bearb
