This course shall integrate the Sunshine State Standards and Goal 3 Student Performance Standards of the Florida System of School Improvement and
Accountability as appropriate to the individual student and to the content and processes of the subject matter.
Students with disabilities shall:
CL.A.1.In.1 complete specified Sunshine State Standards with modifications as appropriate for the individual student.
Special Note. This entire course may not be mastered in one year. A student may earn multiple credits in this course.
Main emphasis is placed on developing proficiency in
mathematical computation and applications; however,
interpersonal and employability skills will be discussed as well.
Academic Goal for School Year 2007-2008
Students will increase math knowledge and evidence of growth in math.
1st Week
Students Kaplan scores will be retrieved and their FCAT scores. They will take the BASIS assessment test. These scores will be reviewed and the determination of their academic path will be determined.
3rd Week - 5th Week
The use of FCAT Explorer will be utilized and upon student's mastery of the determined level will increasingly make available challenging levels of math.
6th Week - 18th Week
The goal of this class is to incorporate the Series "Learning to Learn - Algebra 1". All students who have mastered FCAT Explorer at this time will begin "Learning to Learn series."
The list below is a list of what will be happening in this class once a student reaches the "Learning to Learn" series.
• This is a self paced program, meaning that your son/daughter will be going from skill to skill at their own pace.
• They must have a 100% mastery of each skill before they can go on to the next skill.
• They will need a composition book that all of their work will be kept in.
• The books they will be using will stay in the classroom. If your student wants to go ahead or make up work due to absences, they may arrange a date and time to do so after-school. However the latest that I am available is until 3:30 pm.
The "Learning to Learn program will fulfill all the requirements and Sunshine State Standards of a non pilot program. The same curriculum is being followed for this program.
This program was implemented last school year (2006-2007) with great success and academic achievement for many students.
At the end of this syllabus I have included the Standards so that you and your student can see the requirements that they will be fulfilling.
If there are any questions please feel free to call me at any one of the following numbers : 291-5330, 297-3011.
If a computer is available to you, contact me at any of the following email addresses: elaine.andino@polk-fl.net or you can leave a message here at: http://www.Schoolnotes.com and you can also see the syllabus there and contact me. You can also contact the Guidance Department (please give them a few days, if you are viewing this at the beginning of school, they will be swamped) and they will tell you how to get online and check on your daughter/son's grades when they become available by way of the "Parent Viewer. Please get involved and remain involved in your child's education by signing up for "Parent Viewer." The guidance department, once again will give you detailed instructions for this process.
Thank you,
Elaine Andino
* PS: I welcome visits from parents to see their students engaged in their education. Please contact me so that I can inform Administration that I am expecting a visit from you, either on a specifc day or time within a given week.

Any excuses from doctors, courts or other places need to be turned in to the attendance office (not a teacher) for verification of excused or not excused absences. IF your student goes to the HUT all work for that day in that class is a "0". HUT is for tardies and dress code violations. Please make sure your student is dressed according to code and understands that tardies also will give them a "0" for that class and the work can not be made up.
