Course Syllabus for
Television Production 1

Major Concepts/Content:  The purpose of this course is to develop skills in planning, writing, producing, supervising, performing, and editing television productions.  To  identify the different aspects of script writing and  to learn vocabulary related to productions.

Week 1:  Introduction to class and terms.  Demonstrate camera techniques and practice
       different angles.
Week 2:  Review Literary terms relevant to class and define them related to movie.
Week 3:  Explain script writing and storyboard techniques.  Write interview (package)            
        storyboard.  Video tape interview and overlays.  Teach editing (I-movie)
Week 4:  Watch and evaluate movies using literary terms.  Emphasis on legendary hero�s.
Week 5:  Write, plan, tape, edit and critique 2nd package.
Week 6:  Watch and evaluate movies using literary terms.  Emphasis on �Acting�
Week 7:  Write, plan, tape, edit and critique cadence interview.
Week 8:  Watch and evaluate movies using literary terms.  Emphasis on believable.
Week 9:  Write, plan, tape, edit and critique children�s story.  Change time and setting.
Week 10:  Watch and evaluate movies using literary terms.  Emphasis on �acting�  

    Television Production 2-4

Major Concepts/Content: The purpose of this course is to develop skills in planning, writing, producing, supervising, performing, and editing television productions.  To identify the different aspects of script writing and to learn vocabulary related to productions.                                                                                                                      

The content will include, but not be limited to, the following:

�    Development of interviews and packages serials and docudramas
�    Development of vocabulary related terms
�    Analysis of effective productions
�    Analysis of effective literary terms
�    Techniques and skills for production of multimedia for academic and creative expression

After successfully completing this course, the student will:

1.    Translate a written script into a full television production.
2.    Demonstrate proficiency in performing production operations.
3.    Discuss the characteristics that contribute to an award-winning television production.
4.    Perform various jobs in the television production area.
5.    Identify literary terms correctly in conjunction with video performances.

Course Syllabus for BDTV

Major Concepts/Content. The purpose of this course is to enable students todevelop skills in the production of television programs.
The content should include, but not be limited to, the following:
- roles of the television production team
- operation of sound/video equipment
- script writing and storyboarding for production
- graphics and editing techniques
- direction and production of video projects
- critical analysis of television productions
This course shall integrate the Goal 3 Student Performance Standards of the
Florida System of School Improvement and Accountability as appropriate to the
content and process of the subject matter.
B. Special Note. The course requirements contained in this course description are
designed for a one-credit course. The content includes, but is not limited to,
practice in various journalistic style while applying all aspects of the writing
process. Organization and management techniques related to journalistic
production are stressed. These include leadership skills, record-keeping, time
management, utilization of personnel, and task organization.
C. Course Requirements. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the
benchmarks from the Sunshine State Standards that are most relevant to this
course. Benchmarks correlated with a specific course requirement may also be
addressed by other course requirements as appropriate. Some requirements in this
course are not addressed in the Sunshine State Standards.

After successfully completing this course, the student will:
1. Demonstrate advanced proficiency in the operation of production
equipment.
LA.D.2.3.4 understand how the multiple media tools of graphics,
pictures, color, motion, and music can enhance
communication in television, film, radio, and advertising.
AT.4.1.4.4 apply a variety of technical skills to industry-specific
projects.
TH.A.3.4.3 design, implement, and integrate all sound effects into the
production concept.
VA.A.1.4.2 use tools, media processes, and techniques proficiently,
knowledgeably, and in a safe and responsible manner.
2. Demonstrate the sequential planning process necessary for
incorporating all essential components in a television production.
LA.D.2.4.3 recognize production elements that contribute to the
effectiveness of a specific medium.
AT.1.1.4.1 demonstrate ability to gather information from various
sources to plan a project.
AT.1.1.4.2 create a collaborative and comprehensive plan which
addresses specific events, products, or projects either
personally or in the work place.
3. Demonstrate skills in gathering information and in
scripting/storyboarding a production.
LA.B.1.4.1 select and use appropriate prewriting strategies, such as
brainstorming, graphic organizers, and outlining.
LA.B.1.4.2 draft and revise writing that
� is focused, purposeful, and reflects insight into the
writing situation;
� has an organizational pattern that provides for a logical
progression of ideas;
� has effective use of transitional devices that contribute
to a sense of completeness; and concrete;
� demonstrate a commitment to and involvement

� use creative writing strategies as appropriate to the
purpose of the paper;
� demonstrate a mature command of language with
precision of expression;
� has varied sentence structure; and
� has few, if any, convention errors in mechanics, usage,
punctuation, and spelling.
LA.B.2.4.2 organize information using appropriate systems.
LA.B.2.4.3 write fluently for a variety of occasions, audiences, and
purposes, making appropriate choices regarding style, tone,
level of detail, and organization.
LA.B.2.4.4 select and use a variety of electronic media, such as the
Internet, information services, and desktop-publishing
software programs, to create, revise, retrieve, and verify
information.
4. Demonstrate understanding of the roles of television production
team members.
VA.E.1.4.2 understand and identify the skills that artists use in various
careers to promote creativity, fluency, flexibility, and
elaboration within the arts and across life.
AT.3.1.4.1 develop a budget, financial plan, and cash flow projections
for a team project.
5. Play a key role in a television production.
TH.A.2.4.1 use unified production concepts and techniques (e.g.,
auditioning, directing, producing, and scheduling) for
various media (e.g., theatre, film, television, and electronic
media).
TH.A.3.4.1 use scientific and technological advances to develop visual
and aural staging elements that complement the
interpretation of a text.
TH.E.1.4.4 understand the necessity of goal setting, self-discipline,
punctuality, meeting deadlines, and fulfilling responsibilities
when mounting a theatrical production.
LA.C.3.4.3 use details, illustrations, analogies, and visual aids to make
oral presentations that inform, persuade, or entertain.

6. Critique and construct meaning from television productions.
LA.C.2.4.2 understand factors that influence the effectiveness of
nonverbal cues used in nonprint media, such as the viewer�s
past experiences and preferences, the context in which the
cues are presented.
VA.D.1.4.1 understand and determine the differences between the
artist�s intent and public interpretation through evaluative
criteria and judgment.
TH.D.1.4.3 understand theatrical performances from the perspective of
current personal, national, and international issues, through
the evaluation of artistic choices in film, television, and
electronic media (e.g., different depictions of the story of
Aladdin).
7. Demonstrate responsible and ethical use of information technology
in regard to copyright and intellectual freedom.
LA.D.2.4.6 understand that laws control the delivery and use of media
to protect the rights of authors and the rights of media
owners.
8. Demonstrate understanding of career opportunities in the field of
television production.
TH.E.1.4.3 understand the pertinent skills necessary to pursue theatre
careers and a vocational opportunities in theatre (e.g.,
production skills for managing, administering, organizing,
publishing, accounting, and marketing).
9. Understand the fundamental concepts of studio design and
construction.
VA.A.1.4.2 use tools, media processes, and techniques proficiently,
knowledgeably, and in a safe and responsible manner.
VA.B.1.4.4 know how the elements of art and the principles of design
can be used and solve specific visual-art problems at a
proficient level.
10. Further develop skills to assume roles as leaders of a production
staff.
AT.2.1.4.2 analyze the managerial skills necessary in different workrelated
situations.

AT.9.1.4.2 demonstrate the ability to cooperatively work in various
settings, across diverse populations.
11. Demonstrate graphic design competencies in television production.
VA.B.1.3.2 know how the qualities and characteristics of art media,

communication of experiences and ideas.
VA.B.1.3.4 know and use the interrelated elements of art and the
principles of design to improve the communication of ideas.
12. Participate in broadcast journalism competitions and workshops.
