Attendance Polices and Laws
Your child's school attendance is extremely important to their educational success. Cullman County Board of Education Attendance Polices state that a parent, guardian, or other person having charge of any child officially enrolled in Alabama public schools (K-12) shall explain in writing the cause of any and every absence of the child no later that three (3) days following a return to school. A failure to furnish such explanation shall be evidence of the child being truant each day he/she is absent. If any child fails to attend school without a legal excuse, the child and the person having custody of that child will be referred to Juvenile Court. Any student enrolled in grades kindergarten through eight who misses any class more that six (6) unexcused days in any school year will not be given credit for that class. Any student losing credit due to excessive absences will have the right to appeal to an appeals board. *Please note the school accepts only three (3) parent excuse letters per semester/ After this, the child is expected to bring a doctor's excuse.
