Welcome Back! I enjoyed meeting many parents and students at School Eve. I met the rest of the new, happy faces on Aug. 11. The first two days have been great. We are going to have a wonderful year of learning in Sixth Grade. I will try my best to keep you informed about school happenings. Let me know your questions and concerns.

Week of Aug. 11-Aug. 15
Science - Our first unit of study is the rain forest. The students need to bring their new reading textbook
and their science binder to class each day.
Aug. 18-Aug. 22
Monday - Research an animal that lives in the rain forest.
Tuesday - Research an insect that lives in the rain forest.
Wednesday - Toucan Activity
TEST MONDAY on the ECOLOGY study guide given today, Friday, Sept. 5, 2008.
MEMORIZE the 10 vocabulary words. This test will be given without the study
guide in front of you. Good Luck!

Sept. 2-5
Science - We will be learning about ecology and using our dictionary skills
and writing skills to enhance our activities.
Reading - "Old Yeller" Read and discuss.
Skills - Identifying the setting, cause and effect, and drawing conclusions
Enrichment - We are working on typing skills in the computer lab with Mrs. Tucker.
Sept. 2-5
Science - Ecology Activities
Grades will be taken on work.
Reading - We will be reading and discussing "Old Yeller."
Skills such as drawing conclusions, identifying the setting,
and cause and effect will be stressed.
Aug. 25-29
Rain Forest studies continue.
We will have a quiz on Friday, Aug. 29 from material gone over in class and videos on the Rain Forest.
Reading - We will have a vocabulary/spelling test on 6 words - Aug. 28
We are working on the skills of cause and effect and word structure.
Also, we have learned what the setting of a story is.
Enrichment - Mrs. Tucker is working with our class on beginning typing skills.
We are very excited about this class. It will help us use the proper fingers and learn to type faster. We can research science topics more efficiently.
