GRADES AND PROJECTS: AR QUIZ: Students should be checking out a mystery/suspense AR book to be reading. These books will have both a gray/brown and an orange dot on the spine. Students will have approximately 3 weeks to read the book and take the AR quiz for a grade. Due date TBA.
PREPOSITION QUIZ: Thursday, Oct. 9. Students will need to be able to list all 46 prepositions. See below for list.
BOOK REPORTS DUE OCT. 22. (See handout for directions on project and grading rubric.)
REGULAR CLASSES have a quiz almost every Friday on their story for the week from the literature book. These are typically open-book quizzes. (Some longer stories will require us to spend two weeks.)Tests will be given on each completed unit of the literature book.
Any classwork assignments can be counted as a daily grade. Grammar quizzes and other grades will be given as announced.
ACCELERATED CLASSES have a vocab/spelling quiz each Thursday and a quiz on their story for the week every Friday, unless we are in the middle of a novel study. Quizzes and tests will be announced for novel studies. Grammar quizzes and other grades will be given as announced.

RULES FOR FORMING PLURAL NOUNS
1. Add -s to form the plural of most nouns.
brothers, clouds, mountains, flames, stones
2. Add -es to form the plural of nouns ending in s, x, z, ch, or sh
lenses, taxes, waltzes, patches, dishes
3. Add -es to words ending in a consonant plus o. Add -s to words ending in a vowel plus o.
tomato=tomatoes stereo=stereos
4. When a noun ends in a consonant plus y, change the y to i and add -es. When a noun ends in vowel plus y, just add -s.
puppy=puppies holiday=holidays
5. There are some exceptions to the rules above for forming plurals.

Rules for forming possessive nouns
1. Add 's to the end of all singular nouns.
2. Add ' to the end of plural nouns already ending in s.
3. Add 's to the end of plural nouns not ending in s.
