READING

* Please make sure your child returns with their book in their bag each day!  Thank you!!

Reading Circles: I will be breaking the class up into about three ability based reading groups.  Each group will have about three children.  I will spend about 10 minutes with each group approxemately two days a week.  During this time they will each get quite a bit of individual attention.
Reading Books: Each child will be given a Blend Book which will be for school use only.  We will use this book in reading circles each day to review our blends and one vowel words.  Each child will also be given a small reading book.  We will have several different reading books throughout the year.

Homework: The only homework we have in K-5 is in reading.  On the days which we have reading circles your child will bring home their reading book in order to practice with you.  In that book there will be a bookmark on which I will have written the pages which need to be reviewed that night.  After enjoying reading time with your child please make sure that you sign or initial next to the written assignment on the bookmark so your child can recieve a sticker for doing their homework.  Also it is vital that your child return to school the very next day with that book.  If they do not have their book it makes reading circles very difficult.  The only time you do not send the book back is if I have written "keep" on it.

Seatwork: Seatwork is one of the most important tasks we teach in K-5.  They will have to successfully complete seatwork for the remainder of their time at FCA.  Seatwork is what the children do while they are not participating in their reading circle.  It consists of independently completing about 3 worksheets in approxemately 30 to 40 minutes.  I will go over the directions for each section of each worksheet before I begin reading circles.  We will also do examples and I will answer any questions about their assignments.  However, after I begin reading circles the students are not to talk to each other or interupt me during a reading circle.  Therefore they must listen carefully to the instructions the first time so they can complete their work without having to wait for me to answer a question in between reading groups.
