Auburn University's Summer Building Camp will offer 5 scholarships to attend this summer. Scholarships are for female and minority students interested in construction/architecture. Students must be rising 8th-11th graders. Check out and apply at the website above.
Calhoun Community College SWeETY Camp is a summer welding and electrical technology camp for girls going into grades 10 or 11. See the Calhoun College website or me. Other Calhoun Camps include Robotics Camp and Science and Technology Preview camp for girls going into 11th and 12th grades.
GEMS Program Applications due NOW!
AMRDEC is sponsoring, for the 4th year, a "Beginning GEMS" on Redstone Arsenal this summer. The "Beginning GEMS"(Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science) program at RedstoneArsenal offers talented students, who are entering high school (grades 9-12)in the Fall of 2008, the opportunity to expand upon their interest in mathematics, science, and engineering with hands-on laboratory experiences including, but not limited to, microelectromechanical
systems (MEMS), optics, robotics, rockets,electronics, thermodynamics,and aerodynamics. An effort is made to balance the GEMS curriculabetween individual learning and team challenges.
The "Beginning GEMS" program at Redstone Arsenal is a ONE-WEEK program with 3 separate sessions beginning on either 07 July, 14 July, or 21 July. Each session will run Mon-Fri from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Interested students need to register ASAP at the website above. When registering, indicate "REDSTONE ARSENAL" when prompted for "Please indicate your desired location" AND indicate "REDSTONE ARSENAL" in the essay block found at the end of the application. The ESSAY IS MANDATORY.
Have you heard? The 8th grade Future City Competition Team won $125 for their school. They won in the area of Project Management. Congratulations to Randy Furline, Eric Miller, and Daniel Green, students; Mr. Pete Green, engineer mentor, and Mrs. Gooch, teacher. Thanks also to the other 8th grade students who worked so hard to support their competition team in designing the city, building the model, and helping with the research project.
PSAT takers should sign up for MyRoad. They can take a personality profile and use a college, career, and college major match system which will give lots more information and options for your student's future. Use the link provided and the access code on the score report. The service should be available the week of December 10th.
Career Counseling is on going at Faith Christian Academy. The Kuder Career Counseling website is being used by students. It is available to all students and parents by appointment.
