This week we are continuing the AMSTI unit on Organisms.  We will be learning about plants and animals.  We will make terrariums and aquariums.  Ask your child what they are doing in Science.  Artistic Expressions money is due no later than Friday, November 7th.  Our field trip to Lanark Park is Monday, November 10th.  Please don’t forget to send your child’s lunch if you marked bring a lunch from home.

   Reading
Homework:
Homework is sent home on Tuesdays and due by Friday. Your child should complete days 1-5 from the Family Times worksheet. Homework should be completed on notebook paper. It can be completed on one sheet or multiple pages. If the assignment is oral (reading a story, etc.) you should sign or initial for that day, so I will know that it has been completed. Homework is NOT optional.  It will be counted as a grade!
Tests:
Story/comprehension tests are given each Thursday.  Spelling and vocabulary tests are given each Friday.
Please review the vocabulary and spelling words with your child each week.  I will let you know which words to study in my newsletter each week.  I send home one copy of the vocabulary words and two copies of the spelling words at the beginning of each six weeks. Keep these lists for the entire six weeks.  One copy of the spelling words should be kept at home and one in your child's binder. If you need another copy of either list, let me know and I will send it home with your child.
This week:
This week we will review Unit 2 and take the Unit 2 Test.  We will also start “Pearl and Wagner” on Thursday and Friday because of our field trip next Monday and the holiday on Tuesday.  Our skills for “Pearl and Wagner” are words with long e (e, ee, ea, y), verbs, antonyms, author’s purpose and story structure.  Homework for “Pearl and Wagner” will be sent home in Tuesday’s folder but will not be due until November 14th.  Many children’s grades dropped because homework was not turned in.  This is a grade.  Please read at least 15 minutes with your child each night.  They have an 8 point AR goal this six weeks.  They need to maintain an 85% average.

Math
This week we will learn about fractions: halves, thirds, fourths, and eighths.  Please continue to work on addition, subtraction, and counting money at home.  Homework is in your child’s Tuesday Folder.  Please have your complete it, an adult check it and return it by Friday.  It will be counted as a grade.
