CLASSROOM NEWS
Homeroom

NEEDED: OLD NEWSPAPERS tomorrow for a social studies project.

The classroom Halloween Party will be on Friday, Oct. 31, at 12:30.  Look for an information sheet in your child's Tuesday Folder today.

You will find a permission form for a field trip in November to Alabama Wildlife "Lanark".  The cost is $7.50 for students and the money must be sent to school before October 27th.  Parents or grandparents are welcome to chaperone, just include $6.00.

We will be going to the YMCA for the water safety course the week of October 27th.  We will depart school around noon each day that week and travel by school bus to Prattville.  Each day your child will need a suimsuit, towel, and a plastic bag to put the wet suit and towel in.  Make sure you send a snack or money to buy one because, as you know, children get very hungry participating in swimming and water activities.

Social Studies
Unit 2: We will study climates and regions, as well as natural resources.  Starting tomorrow we will begin making landform maps, if everything goes as planned.

Science
None

Literacy Class

Listen to your child read the words on the "Frye Frequently Used Words" lists that were sent home.  These words should be read on sight, and not memorized.  If students can read the words it will improve reading ability.
This week we will begin unit 2.  The selection in reading this week is "Ronald Morgan Goes to Bat".  Please read the selection with your child.  The test will be given on Thursday.
New spelling word lists and reading vocabulary (also called high frequency words)lists were sent home in Tuesday Folders.
The selection tests for the story selections will be given on Thursdays, and the story selection tests will be open book this year.
Please help your child read the vocabulary words (high frequency words) and know meanings, and study the spelling words.  The word list is also on the first page, before the stories in the reading book.  The spelling tests will be given on Fridays.  Keep the spelling word lists for the first six weeks.
Library time is scheduled for Wednesdays.  Please listen to your child read the library book, so they will pass the A.R. test.

Math
This week the students will continue learning to regroup with 2 digit addition (carrying). Expect homework 2-3 days a week, usually Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.  Homework should be completed and returned the next day.

Computer Lab
We will start going to the lab soon and students will be learning computer skills through an internet site called www.learning.com.  This site may be accessed from home and students are encouraged to do so.  Students will be assigned a username and password.

example:
username: DoeJ00 (type last name/first inital/00)
password: ples
district: Autauga County

Friday Break

On Fridays students who have not received demerits for misbehaving, will be rewarded with an extra 20 minute break. This year Friday Break will be held most Fridays and a special snack will be sold, for 50 cents, on the last Friday of the month.

Art
Children should not take supplies home because they may forget to bring them back to school.  Please be sure your child has all the items on the supply list, and replenish items as needed during the school year.

Progress Reports
Each Tuesday a Weekly Report folder will be sent home which will contain a newsletter with tentative plans for the coming week, a conduct update, an effort grade, and graded papers from the previous week.  Please sign and return only papers that are stamped sign & return, sign the folder and return it on Wednesday.

Grades
If a paper has a numerical grade such as 95, please know that a grade was recorded in the grade book.

Snack
Please provide your child with a juice and/or snack from home each day.  Refreshments may be purchased for 50 cents each, but students must keep up with their own money, so please be sure it is in a ziplock bag with your child's name on it.
