November 3

•    Dear Parents,

•    Out of school Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11.  Thanksgiving Holidays are Nov. 23-27.

•    The word for the Tier II vocabulary for the 2nd nine weeks will have to come from the story.  This week their word needs to be a harder word from The Gardener.  Many students are not turning in their word or the incorrect type of word.  This is part of their grade.

•    Yearbooks are on sale for $30.00.

•    They are really having a hard time paying attention and following directions.  In 3rd grade we have too much to cover before the SAT and ARMT test for them not to be trying their best.  I go over all work but they must listen.  You may see lower grades because of this.  I ask them several times to put up book or get out a piece of paper and they just keep doing what they were doing before.  We do not have the time for them to not do what is asked.

•    If you need to contact me (Miss McCord) my phone number is 365-4593, but please calls before 8:30.

They have homework every night.  They are to write it in the homework folder.  I have it written on the board and then ask them to write it in the folder.

READING—They had their 6 week unit test last week.  The grade that they made is in their folder on a colored sheet of paper.  Academic vocabulary words are in their homework folder.   We have covered the words genre, fables, contrast, compare, captions, and graphics.  This week we are going over fiction and non-fiction. Next week they will have a homework sheet on these 8 and a test on these the next day.  Next week they are out on Wednesday, so they will ready have to pay attention to the story.

Language—They are working on action verbs and the linking verbs of am, is, are, was, and were.  They need to know the 5 linking verbs for a test on Friday.  They will have to write these words.

Spelling –They are working on week 4—contractions.  They had a-b-c order due on Tuesday and their 1st test.  The 10 sentences are due on Friday along with the signed test and those who do not make 100 to retake the test.

Science—They are working on Chapter 12 Forces and Motion.  They will have homework on each lesson.  The book also has workbook pages that they will be doing.   They will have a test on Friday.  The study sheet is to be signed and returned on Friday.  They will have the study sheet for 2 days before the test.  We will work on chapter 10 & 11 as we do the AMSTI lessons on Chemical Change.  We have the kits for chemical changes and we will start on these when we finish Chapter 12.

Social Studies-They are going to Mr. Marks to do Social Studies on Tuesday and Thursday. They are working out of their book.

Science  11-3  Mr. Marks’ class coming to Miss McCord.

They will be working on Chapter 12. They will have homework on each lesson and workbook pages to do.  They will have a test on this Friday.  They will have their study sheet 2 days before the test.  These need to be signed and returned on the day of their test.  They will work on Chapter 10 & 11 as we work on the AMSTI Chemical Changes.  WE WILL START ON THIS AS SOON AS WE FINISH CHAPTER 12.
This class is having a very hard time listening in class and following directions.  They can not talk and misbehave and learn what they need to do.  They need to do homework and return it the next day.  They are not given anything we have not gone over, but they may have lower grades because of not listening or not doing homework on time.
If you need to contact me my phone number is 365-4593 (Miss McCord), but please does so before 8:30.

MATH     Nov. 3, 2009
They should know the multiplication facts of 0, 1, 2, 5,& 10’s.  We are also working on division.  They need to learn the 3’s and 4’s.  These need to be learned not just in order.  The next check the have on in math is multiplication.    They have homework every night.  They need to return it the next day.
Many of you will notice that some of their work was not the best that they can do.  They are not listening in class to directions.  I don’t give them any work that we have not gone over.   The work needs to shown with renaming, leaving the problem, and if the answer needs words or $. to put them.  MONEY has to have $ and decimal ( . ) or cent sign.  If the dollar sign is at the top, they need to dollar sign with the answer.  They must show all their work, not erase it after they have done the problem.  The answer in the coins they use to show change should not always be in pennies.  I have been over this.
They will have speed test on addition and subtraction this nine weeks, but the next 9 weeks it will be multiplication.
If you need to call me my phone number is 365-4593, put please call before 8:30.
Thank you. Miss McCord.
