MRS. EDWARDS' CLASS

Welcome to Kindergarten!

August 22, 2008

Dear Parents,

I wanted to let you know that I will be changing rooms starting Monday. I will be moving into Ms. Ellis’ old room, which is K-9. It is the last door on the right side of the hall. I will pick the students up from the hall and we will walk to the room together on Monday. If your child is late, someone will escort them down to the room. I showed the students the new room today and each seem to be excited; however, some may seem a little apprehensive, especially after being placed in a new class. Mrs. Baxley will be moving into my room. That will allow all the kindergarten teachers to be on the same hall. I am excited about the move, even though I hate to give up my big room. However, we are gaining a cubby room, which will allow me to store more things as well as the students to store their things. We also will have a bathroom, which will come in handy. I will have everything moved in for Monday but it will take a little time for everything to be unpacked and stored away. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Please do not worry about your child going to the wrong class. It will take me several days to get used to this change as well. I am excited about this change. Thanks for all your help over these past weeks. I really appreciate all your help!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Edwards

Dear Parents,

I hope your child has enjoyed the first full week of kindergarten. I think most of the children are picking up on the rules and procedures; however, I am having a few that are still having trouble sitting still and listening quietly. We will continue to work on these rules over the next few weeks. I have begun to write on some folders this past week. Each week I will give fewer warnings because I feel it is important for children to learn and understand the rules. Overall, I feel like the first few days of school have run smoothly. Thanks to all your help and encouragement parents. I couldn’t have done it without your help!

APT Open House will be this Tuesday, August 19th at 6:30 p.m. Please report to the lunchroom first and then you will be allowed to come and visit your child’s room and see their work samples as well as ask any questions you need to have answered. I hope to see all of you.

Don’t forget to send in the All About Me posters (by Tuesday) so we can have these on display this week in the hall for Open House. We will be learning about colors, shapes and letters this week. We will learn letters Ff, Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm, Nn. This is just a letter preview. We will spend more time in depth learning the letter and its sound in the coming weeks. The colors will be purple, brown, black, white, pink, and gray. The shapes this week are triangle and rectangle.

Thanks for initialing your child’s folder each day. I appreciate your willingness to take time out of your busy schedule to see how your child is progressing, both academically and behaviorally. Thanks to all who are using envelopes or zip lock bags for their child’s lunch and snack money. It has been very helpful! I look forward to seeing you Tuesday at Open House!

Thanks,
Mrs. Edwards
