About the Teacher:

Welcome to the 5th grade!  I consider it a pleasure and a privilege to teach at Pine Level Elementary each and every day.  I am a graduate of Auburn University at Montomery with a B.S. degree in elementary education. I started my teaching career at Marbury Elementary in 1990 and taught there for four years.  I then took a few years away from teaching to be at home
with my children  I returned to teaching in 2003 at Pine Level.  I am blessed with a great family which consists of a wonderful husband, two awesome kids, one rather energetic Boston Terrier, and a sweet Golden Retriever.  There is never a dull moment around my house!

Discipline Policy:

Discipline Philosophy:  I believe that children learn best in an environment that is orderly and consistent.  I further believe that all children have the ability to act appropriately in class.  All of
my students have the right to learn and I will not tolerate any student behavior that keeps me from teaching or other students from learning.  Discipline will be administered fairly and consistently with all students.  I will work with my students throughout the year to help them learn to accept responsibility for their behavior and to discuss making better choices to change adverse behavior.  Your support and reinforcement at home will help to insure its success.  After all, every aspect of education involves a partnership between the teacher, the student, and the home.

Classroom Rules:

1.  Do not talk without permission.
2.  Always be respectful of others.
3.  Keep your hands, feet and property to yourself.
4.  Follow all school policies and the policies in the Autauga County Code of Conduct.
5.  Always come to class prepared.
6.  Gum and candy are not allowed.

Dress Code:
BOYS:  Boys must wear their shirts tucked in at all times.  Hats are not allowed and will be taken up if worn to school.  In addition, boys must be in compliance with all other items listed in the dress code of the Autauga County Code of Conduct.

GIRLS:  Girls must wear shorts/skirts of an appropriate length.  We will check this by having the girls place their arms down by their side.  The length of their shorts/skirt must be as long or longer than their longest finger tip.  Girls must wear shirts that cover their stomach at all times even if their arms are raised.  Girls must also comply with all other items listed under the dress code in the Autauga County Code of Conduct.

If a student is in violation of the dress code, he/she will be sent to the office where he/she will be required to obtain a change of clothes from home before returning to class.

This dress code will be enforced consistently with each student every day.  As parents, your cooperation will be crucial to insure that your child does not waste valuable class time waiting in the office for a change of clothes.

Homework:

LITERACY HOMEWORK:

Students will have the following literacy homework every week.  Students are given the story name, vocabulary, and spelling list each Monday. (A six weeks vocabulary list and spelling list will be sent home prior to the first story each six weeks.)  In addition, all assignments are listed on the front
board and given orally numerous times.  If there is a Monday holiday, due dates will be shifted one day.

Three different sentences with each vocabulary word – Due each Wednesday
Reading Vocabulary and Comprehension Test – Each Thursday
Write Spelling Words 5 Times Each – Due Thursday
Spelling Test – Each Thursday

*Obviously, there are many items due and tested on Thursdays.  However, students may complete written assignments prior to Thursday and keep them until time to turn in.  Likewise, they may read and study as necessary to suit their after school schedule.

MATH HOMEWORK:

Students should practice their multiplication facts nightly.

SOCIAL STUDIES HOMEWORK:

Homework will rarely be given in Social Studies.  Occasionally, your child may not complete his/her classwork and may have to complete it for at home that evening.  If this happens frequently, please speak to your child about using class time wisely as this should be a rare occurrence.

**Additional homework other than the items listed here will be issued on an as needed basis.  When additional homework is given, it will be written on the front board and given orally.  Students should have an assignment book at all times and record those as they come up.
