-THE STUDENTS HAVE A WEEKLY SPELLING TEST BASED ON THEIR INDIVIDUAL LEVELS.THEY DO VARIOUS ACTIVITIES WITH THEIR SPELLING LIST:FILL-IN-THE-BLANK,CHECKPOINT,STORY COMPLETION,MATCHING,ABC ORDER,CAPITALIZATION,PUNCTUATION,DRILLS ETC...THEY COPY THEIR SPELLING LIST IN THEIR AGENDA AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH WEEK.THE STUDENTS ALSO WORK ON OTHER LANGUAGE SKILLS.
*READING:
-WE USE THE ACCELERATED READING PROGRAM.IN THIS PROGRAM,EACH STUDENT CHECKS OUT VARIOUS BOOKS FROM THE LIBRARY BASED ON THEIR READING LEVEL. AFTER EACH BOOK IS READ, THE STUDENT TAKES A COMPREHENSION TEST WHICH IS SET UP ON THE SCHOOL COMPUTER. WE ALSO COMPLETE VARIOUS SMALL GROUP ACTIVITIES ON COMPREHENSION SKILLS,VOCABULARY BUILDING,DRAWING CONCLUSIONS,CAUSE AND EFFECT,PREDICTING OUTCOMES,INFERENCES ETC...IN MY READING CENTER I USE A PROGRAM CALLED SRA READING LABORATORY. THIS PROGRAM IS SET UP ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS.THE READING MATERIALS IN THE SRA LAB ARE ORGANIZED INTO A SERIES OF GRADUATED DIFFICULTY LEVELS.
