SYLLABUS
Allied Health I
Greenville Technical Center
    

Course Description
    The program introduces the student to careers available in the health field, basic anatomy and physiology, and basic patient care skills. Upon completion of this first year introductory course the student will be trained to be an entry-level general basic health care assistant and trained in CPR and first aid. The student will be better able to make an informed choice of a health occupation that he/she plans to pursue. This course is taught for one year, and it earns 2 Carnegie Units. Students who complete Allied Health I may count one of the credits earned in this course as one science credit toward graduation requirements. (Grades 10-12; 2 Carnegie units)

Course Description
    The emphasis of the second year of Allied Health is primarily to expose students to advanced skills in the various health occupations and the basic health care sciences. Students may participate in shadowing experiences in selected health care facilities. Upon completion of the second year advanced course, the student will be trained to work as an entry-level assistant in various health occupations and will be certified in CPR at the health care provider level. This course is taught for one year, and it earns 2 Carnegie Units.

This program includes a minimum of 100 hours of clinical-type experience over the two year period. This clinical-type experience can include tours of health care facilities, guest speakers, laboratory practice/demonstration in the classroom, and observation experiences in medical facilities. (2 Carnegie units). Upon successful completion of this class and scoring 80% or greater on MS-CPAS2 students are allowed to recieve up to 6 college hours.

   CPR training May 5, 2008 from 12:45pm - 5:00pm. Clinical DRMC every Tuesday and Thursday wear appropriate uniform.
All missed "Clinicals days" must be made up.
