IMPORTANT SCHOOL INFORMATION
MAY DAY ANNOUNCEMENT:
(E-mail sent to the teachers on behalf of Mrs. Hardy):
The weather report does not look too good for Wednesday and Thursday. If it rains as much as is predicted we will have to switch to plan B for May Day. Plan B is as follows:
We will have May Day "Fun Day" inside the building. Each class will remain in their homeroom with their homeroom teacher. The homeroom teacher will go ahead and select and have in their possession a couple of "G" rated movies that you think the students will enjoy. You may ask the students to bring some to you on Wednesday or Thursday for your approval. You may plan to have board games such as bingo or monopoly or any other board game that you may have. Usually a board game works best with three to four students. Anymore than that causes problems, so you may want students to bring several board games for you to select from. You still have time, if you announce this today, for the students to bring movies, board games, etc. for your approval to use in your classroom on Friday.
We will set up in the cafeteria the concession stand. We will rotate classes to come to the cafeteria all throughout the day. We will still have sack lunches in the classrooms.
All of the above is just "in case" the outside Field Day is rained out. The May Day Committee will make that determination before we leave school on Thursday afternoon. Please make sure the students understand this. I do not want them to be disappointed. - B. Hardy

Administrative Information
Immunization
I have received most of the I121 forms (shot records) that I was missing from your children's folders. If I still need yours, please try to get it to me as soon as possible. This is very important!!!!
ABSENCES
IF YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT, THEY MUST HAVE AN EXCUSE BROUGHT TO THE SCHOOL THE DAY THEY RETURN!!! Absences without a letter of excuse will be considered unexcused! After 5 absences, the child must have a doctor's excuse for the absence to be considered excused. Five (5) unexcused absences will be turned into the Attendance Officer. Three (3) tardies will equal one unexcused absence!
Hayes Cooper policy states that no more than 10 absences are permitted to remain at Hayes Cooper. Extenuating circumstances will be addressed on an individual basis with the principal making the final decision. Test data shows that your child's success depends on your child attending school every day!
TARDIES: Students who have accumulated three (3) tardies will be served with an after school detention (ClevelandSchool District Policy Handbook for Students, p11.) Parents must pick the student up at 3:30pm on the day the detention is to be served.
60% Days / Professional Development Days
There are NO 60% days this 2006-2007 school year!!! There will be several professional development days instead! Students do not come to school on these dates. They are: December 19th and 20th - 1:00 dismissal

Cafeteria Meals
Parents, there are already some children who have not paid for meals in the school cafeteria. We were given new rules from Central Office on August 25th, that no child will be allowed to receive a tray from the cafeteria if they are 5 days late paying. The cafeteria will only be able to give the children crackers and milk.
We have a wonderful, very considerate group of ladies working in the cafeteria, and it bothers them that some of these children will have to be denied a tray of food and given only crackers and milk, in front of their friends. So please send lunch money in an envelope with the child's name on it, to school with them. If it would make it easier on you, you may send enough money for the entire week, or month, or even 9-week period. We thank you and your children thank you!
Hayes Cooper Booster Club

Next BOOSTER CLUB OFFICERS MEETING: Please inform any Booster Club Officers of anything you'd like to have addressed at the next meeting prior to this meeting. We will be glad to add it to our adgenda and discuss it! Thank you!
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION-3 WAYS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Hayes Cooper has always been a leader in technology. We want to be able to continue that goal, but need your help. A major fund raiser for technology is BoxTops for Education. Below are 3 ways you can help collect money for our Science Lab. Thank you for your support! If you have questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Bonner at hccsci@yahoo.com.
CLIP-The original Box Tops for Education. Simply clip the BoxTops for Education coupon from participating General Mills products. Send the coupons to the school Hayes Cooper receives .10 for each coupon clipped.
SHOP-The BoxTops for Education Marketplace Sign-up to support Hayes Cooper at the BoxTops Marketplace at boxtops4education.com Click Out to shop at your favorite online stores Up to 10% of each qualifying purchase is donated to Hayes Cooper
CHARGE-The BoxTops for Education Visa Card Apply for the Box Tops Visa Card: call 1-800-227-9605 or visit boxtops4education.com to apply and sign up to support Hayes Cooper. Shop using your BoxTops Visa card 1% of each purchase goes to Hayes Cooper
Target Donations To Your School
Our school has received a wonderful donation on behalf of Target and the Take Charge of Education program. Target donates up to 1% of purchases made using the REDcard SM to eligible shcool designated by you. Schools are issued Take Charge of Education donations each March and September.
It is very easy to get involved in this program to support the school. With spring at our heels and our need to buy new spring/summer wardrobes, I thought I might throw this out your way!!! It doesn't cost cardholders (you) anything to sign up for the program, and you can designate your school in one of three ways:
*Visit Target.com/tcoe *Stop by the kiosk in your favorite Target store *Call 1-800-316-6142
Aluminum Can Recycling:
Please help the Hayes Cooper Science Lab collect aluminum cans for recycling. The money we receive will help to restock the science laboratory. You will find an aluminum can receptacle in the cafeteria and in the teacher's lounge in the 6th grade wing.
Please save the Pop-Tops from Aluminum cans for the St. Jude fund-raiser. You may turn these in to Mrs. Roberts in a zip-lock bag.
Printer / Fax / Copier Cartridges Recycling: We are still collecting used ink cartridges from printers, faxes, and copiers (and any other you may have). Please bag or box them up for the science lab. We recently received a check for over $300 from cartridges we've received for recycling, so you see, it really makes a difference. The money we receive goes to help our wonderful Science Lab Teacher replenish supplies.
Old Telephone Recycling: Hayes Cooper collects old cell phones for recycling. The money we receive from these old unused phones goes toward the Science Lab
Geenhouse needs any old pots and hanging baskets that you may have lying around or are throwing away once you've planted your spring flowers. Mrs. Bonner will be using these to help the children learn plant and greenhouse science.
Busses
Busses and bus drivers are handled through the district facilities building, not the schools. If you have any questions or concerns, please address them with the bus coordinator, Larry Harkins at 719-3703.
SchoolNotes Disclaimer:
SchoolNotes is designed to give parents a glimpse into their child's classroom. It is meant to be a kind of "link" for parents to the teachers. Teachers will put information about what the children are doing for the week, the weeks spelling words, and what tests are planned. Hayes Cooper is trying to teach our children about responsibility. Homework is therefore in the child's planner. Parents may also contact the teachers by e-mailing through SchoolNotes. This is what SchoolNotes is intended to be used for.
However, NOTHING in SchoolNotes is set in stone! Tests that have been scheduled may be changed last minute because the printing hasn't come back from Central Office, or the teacher may feel that the children are not yet ready for the test (as she thought they'd be when she updated SchoolNotes the Friday before) and decide to work with them some more before giving the tests. SchoolNotes will be updated so that you will know what the new test schedule will be. We want our children to succeed and not be set up for failure because of a "schedule". Let us as parents (me included) please try to allow the teachers to teach our children. They are very good at what they do and they have your child's best interest at heart.
Hayes Cooper is a success in part due to the high percentage of parent involvement within the school. We encourage and appreciate your input. We could not do it without you!
