WHAT'S HAPPENING!
The Hayes Cooper Reading Fair was October 28, 2008. The students all worked hard on their projects and we are all proud of them. The winners will advance to the Cleveland School District Reading Fair to be held in January.
CLASS PROJECTS

Kindergarten - Students have been studying about nocturnal animals. They have watched videos and looked in magazines to learn about nocturnal animals.
First and Second Grade - Students are listening to stories and learning about story elements.
Third Grade through Sixth graders have been learning the six steps in the Big6 Process. This is an effective and systematic way for planning any activity. They are continuing to learn how to use the Magnolia and Grolier websites to locate information.

Fourth Grade - Students will begin a project on famous Mississippians and animals that are native to Mississippi. We will model activities in the library before they are required to complete the project . This will be done in the library but do ask your child questions about this project.
Fifth Grade - Students will be completing a research assignment for the pyp unit on polluiton.
Sixth Grade - Students will be researching an element from the Periodic Table.
Finally, our automated card catalog is up and running! Students in grades 2-6 will be allowed to chech out two books per week. If they finish reading their books and fill out a student attitude sheet they will be allowed to check out books before school.
Please encourage your child/children to read each day for pleasure!
