SchoolNotes.com - Linking Educators to the Community
East Flora Middle Parents,

As we begin the 4th 9-week session of school, I encourage you to continue to motivate your child to do his/her best on the upcoming Statewide MCT2 tests that are in May.  I believe we have what it takes to continue to be a successful school.  Even though we face hurdles along the way we will survive because of the wonderful students, devoted staff, great parents and thriving community support.
Our teachers are preparing quality instruction for our students because we want them to be the best in everything they do.  As I continue to do my best to provide an atmosphere where learning comes first, I ask that you would help us so we can stimulate the mind of your child together.   I also ask that you would join us by getting on board by joining our PTA (Parent Teacher Association) and becoming an advocate for success in our school. As always, thank you for your support of East Flora Middle.
Go Jags!

The Parents’ Role in Achievement Testing (MCT2)

Teachers, students and parents have important roles to play throughout the school year to ensure that students get the most from their education.  Each year, schools assess student achievement to gauge the progress being made in their classrooms.  These tests are designed to measure how well teachers have taught and how well students have learned.

Parents have an important role to play to ensure that their children’s progress is accurately reflected in the test results.   There are also steps parents and others can take to help all children in the district perform their best.

Students perform best when they are well-rested, well-nourished, and anxiety free (to the extent possible!)

To help their own children, parents should…

·make sure your student gets adequate sleep the night
  before a test
·serve your student a good breakfast on test day
·send your student off to school with encouraging words
·do whatever possible to ensure a stress-free
environment for your student during test week
·ensure that your child understands the importance of
doing his/her best on the assessment

Citrus, protein and peppermint have been shown to help students remain alert and focused during testing.

To help many students, parents and others often…

·volunteer to send orange juice, cheese cubes and/or
peppermint to school for snacks on test day (always
  check with the teacher first!).

Schools are required to have a proctor in each classroom where testing is taking place.

To help a school district, parents and others can…

·contact school principals to see if volunteers are
needed to proctor the tests.  It only takes a few
hours, and your school will appreciate your offer of
  assistance.
