Test--chapter 18-using verbs correctly

Don't forget that your final drafts are due Thursday, April 3.  You must have submitted your paper electronically through turnitin.com, and you must have your paper with you in class.  You should have your note/sourcecards, internet sources printed, title page, outline, paper with citations, and works cited page.  You should also have your rough draft with you.

Feel free to come by during break if you need help with anything.  



Wednesday, Jan. 30--make sure you have finished your practice source cards. They will be due this date for a daily grade.

Monday, Jan. 28--finish practice test

Tuesday, Jan. 22

Practice English II assessment.  

Thursday, Jan. 24

We will begin talking about the research paper.

Jan 9--make sure you have your grammar workbook AND your GRAMMAR BOOK with you in class!

Finish up your questions on "By Any Other Name." Have them with you in class.


Students should be purchasing copy of THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MISS JANE PITTMAN.

You should read through p. 207 by Friday, Dec. 14

Exam Information:
10 questions--parts of speech
10 questions--parts of a sentence
10 questions--identifying phrases
10 questions--glossary of usage

30-40 questions: plot, exposition, climax, falling action, resolution, setting, characterization (direct or indirect), theme, metaphor, simile, personification, onomatopoeia, rhyme, round/flat characters,imagery, conflict--external/internal, point-of-view, symbolism.

Remainder of the questions--The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman

Nov. 30--poetry test

Nov. 28th-final essay due.



Nov. 15--we will finish your poetry work from last class.

Nov. 13th--have your poetry handout complete and with you.

Nov. 9th---Final draft of essay is due.

Nov. 5th--Rough draft is due.

Also, you will have a vocabulary quiz on lessons 5 and 6 in your vocabulary workbook.

Prompt choices:

1. Imagine that you have been asked to give a speech and that the whole world will be your audience.  Write about the topics you would include in your speech.  Be sure to give specific examples and support them with details.

2. Think of some products you consider useful that you use almost everyday.  Write about why those products are useful.  Be sure to support your answer with details.

Oct. 30th. Students will take test on Antigone.

Oct. 22-p.47 in WB due

Oct. 18-p. 44 in WB due.

Oct. 10--vocabulary quiz

September 27--finish movie. Discussion of characterization. (in class)

September 25--short story elements test
Watch movie and identify elements within the movie.


September 19
Ex. 5 p. 649--usage. Study prior using chapters.  Also, remember to mark up your story, "A Visit to Grandmother." Indicate examples of indirect and direct characterization.

September 7
Test--Parts of Speech.
Vocabulary work--in class
Begin reading "Masque of the Red Death"


August 29

Finish "Beware of Dog" in class. Discussion of plot, rising action, characterization, etc.

August 23, 2007

Students will read the short story "Shaving" in class. Discussion of symbolism. Students will identify short story elements.
