Welcome to Accounting I. We will be using the Century 21 Accounting Textbook, Eighth Edition. The students will purchase an accounting workbook which contains all of the Working Papers needed to complete the chapter assignments. The students will also purchase an accounting simulation to be used in the spring semester to reinforce the accounting cycle. The total cost of these supplements is $35.75. The checks may be made payable to MCHS. The students will also need the following supplies to be brought to class every day.
1 1/2 inch binder with looseleaf paper
Mechanical pencils to be used for problems
No PENS may be used on working papers (points will be deducted)
A calculator must be brought to class every day.
Homework is very important in the learning of Accounting. For this reason, homework will be graded and will count 20% of the student's grades. Classwork will count 30% and Chapter tests will count 50%.
8/7-8/8 Introduction to class, give out syllabus and supply list. Two extra credit assignments given:
1. Find the top 5 Accounting Firms - due on 8/11-8/12.
2. Cut 5 job opportunities for Accounting professionals from the classified ads of the newspaper. Paste on a piece of paper and turn in for 5 points on the 1st chapter test. - due before the 1st chapter test.
Introduce Chapter 1. Students record new terms in notebooks.

Homework: Finish reading pages 6-8, define all terms and answer the four questions on page 9.
8/13-14 Discuss Assets, liabilities, and owner's equity. Learn 5 basic transactions for starting a business. Work together 1-2

8/15-16 Give T/F quiz on Lessons 1-1 and 1-2 to check student's understanding of the concepts covered.

Study pages 55-77, Complete all Workiing Together problems with teacher demonstration. Complete all On Your Own problems independently, complete Application Problems 3-1, 3-2, 3-3, 3-4, 3-5 and 3-6. Students will also complete Recycling Problem 3. students will learn how to journalize transactions, carry totals to new page, post transactions and Prove and rule journal pages, and prove cash.

10/5-10/9 Demonstrated how to prepare an Excel Spreadsheet and students completed the Soucre Document Problem in book on page 114 as I completed a spreadsheet using projector.
10/10-19 Worked on Chapter 5. Completed all demonsration problems, work together problems, On Your Own Problems, and Application Problems. Completed Recycling Problem 5-1.

Students will complete demonstration problems, work together problems, on your own problems, application problems, mastery problem and recycling problem to demonsrate mastery. Students will do some of the activities in class and some will be assigned as homework (if not completed in class or time demands outside practice) Homework assignments are posted on the board in the classroom each day. January 7-18 - Discuss Chapter 9 Purchases, purchases returns and allowances, and purchase discounts. Journalizing these transactions into special journals: Purchases, Cash Payments, and General Journals. Work all of the work together, On Your Own Problems, Mastery Problem, and Recycling Problem.
Also will complete the Using Source Document Problem - due day of test (found in workbook and book)
January 22 & 23: Test on Chapter 9

Discuss journalizing transactions related to sales and cash receipts for a merchandising business organized as a corporation (use a sales journal, cash receipts journal and general journal)
Work all of the Work together problems, On your Own problems, Application Problems, Mastery Problem and Recycling Problem. Various applications and problems will be graded.
