Welcome to Computer Applications!  I will be teaching this class second semester (January, 2008)

Computer Applications is designed to provide each student with essential introductory skills and knowledge necessary to use comuter hardware and software in daily life and occupational tasks.

There are no homework assignments in this class.  ALL WORK must be completed in the computer lab.  The students work through each chapter in a tutorial fashion with step by steps, and end of chapter projects.  All assignments for each chapter will consist of:  open book test (study guide), review questions, terms and summary, step by step tutorial, book projects and teacher made projects.  A written test will be given after every chapter.  A nine week test will be given at the end of the 3rd nine week period.

The students are required to maintain a notebook that will contain all the information needed to study for the written tests. Please look at the notebook pledge on the first page of their notebook which will tell how the notebook should be arranged.  Notebook checks are given periodically to insure students maintain all materials need to study for tests.

We also will have timed writings in this class to build speed and accuracy.  We begin with a goal of 35 GWAM with 5 or less errors on a 3 minute writing.  The goal will move up one word each week until we reach 50 GWAM in May.

Students are required to define the Words of the Day each day.  After each 10 words, the students print their papers for a daily grade.  Graded for completeness and accuracy of definition, students work is also checked for correct keying.

Students also key a paragraph each day using the Character trait for the week.

If the student is absent, he/she must make up the work in my classroom.  The lab will be open each day from 7:45-4:00 or longer if arrangements have been made.

If I can be of help, please feel free to get in touch with me.
