Congratulations to these students!  I am expecting great things from each of you.  We have a lot of great music and some really fun choreography to learn. I know that you will enjoy the class and that you will do a great job.

We have already begun learning vocals for new pieces and have begun choreography on one.  Our first performance will be our Fall Concert on Thursday evening, October 4th, at 6:30pm, in our brand new auditorium.  I look forward to your outstanding performance!

Parents, should you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via schoolnotes, phone (853-2047), or e-mail: jbruening@madison-schools.com

Again, welcome to a new and exciting year in "The Jungle"!

9/4/07
This week we begin choreography on our second piece.  These first two pieces are those that we will perform on our Fall Concert, October 4th, in the auditorium, at 6:30pm.  Sensations are to be there at 4:15 to run through the show.  They will then have time to get dressed.  Students, please plan your schedule accordingly.

Those who have not done so, remember to bring your payment for first semester fees and costumes.
Let's have a great week.  Go Jags!!!

9/10/07
Showchoir:  This week we will begin new choreography on "The Way You Look Tonight".  We will continue review choreography already learned on "Broadway Boogie" in addition to learning more.  We will also continue to work on the vocals for both pieces and begin memory work.

Girls have been measured for dresses and they have been ordered.  Rehearsal shorts and t-shirts are on order as well.  These will be worn every day for rehearsals.  Let's have a great week!

09/17/07
Showchoir:  Homecoming Week!  Even though we have many special homecoming activities planned for this week, we must stay focused and continue to progress.
We are over half way through with new choreography for both "The Way" and "Broadway Boogie".  MCHS Sensations T-shirts and shorts are in and they look very good.  They are to be worn at each rehearsal.  This will give us a uniform look and make it easier for us to rehearse in unison.  Girls, remember to bring your dance shoes for rehearsal. You need to begin rehearsing in them in order to get used to them and the shoes will make turning easier and will 'save' your feet!  This week we will also begin checking memory work on voice parts.  Our fall concert is not far away!  Let's see how much we can acomplish this week.  GO JAGS!

9/24/07
Showchoir:  This week we will have three class meetings.  That will help us in preparation for the fall concert, which is October 4th,just around the corner.  FYI Parents, and Remember Girls, that tomorrow after school (4-6 pm) we will have an extra rehearsal on stage in the auditorium from 4-6 pm.
Have a great week!

10/01/07
This Thursday is our Fall Concert.  Remember that showchoir will rehearse Tuesday, October 2, at 4:00 in the auditorium and choir rehearsal will follow at 6:30 pm.  On Thursday, October 4, all showchoir students are to be on stage in the auditorium at 4:15 to run through pieces before getting dressed for the concert, and all choir students must be there at 5:30.  The concert begins at 6:30 pm.

We've worked very hard to prepare for the concert. Let's stay focused and do our very best Thursday night.  Go Jags!

10/09/07
Hope everyone had a wonderful day off!  Tuesday, we begin by completing a self-evaluation of our Fall Concert performance.  I think that all went well.  You girls looked fantastic and gave it your all.  Of course, there is always room for improvement, so we work to continue cleaning and polishing for our next performance of these pieces.  But thanks to everyone for a job well done!

This week we will begin work on 'Cinemagic'.  This will take some time, as it is a 40 minute work.  However, we will enjoy working on this piece and especially performing it next semester.

We have a few issues to work through regarding costumes, and we will begin discussion on this topic as well.  Let's have a great week in the jungle.

10/10/07
4th Block Rosa Girls
Great job on the fall concert Thursday evening.  As you know, there is always room for improvement, however, thanks for a job well done.  I hope that by now you understand what is expected of you in choir.  Please remember to give it your all each and every time we meet.  Again, thanks for all the hard work.

10/15/07
Showchoir:
This week we continue learning new music, 'Cinemagic'.  We will review sections I and II and by the end of the week we will add listen to section III.  We will be working on this piece for quite some time as it is a very long piece.  Length is approximately 38 minutes.  Please, let's stay focused and learn this as quickly as we can so that we can begin the "acting/choreography".  Let's have a great week!

Rosa 4th block Girls' choir:

We welcome Kandance Webley to our group.  Kandance will join us next semester as Maggie is leaving us.  We hate to lose Maggie.  She has been a great asset to our group.  This week we will continue to work vocals on Cinemagic.  However, we made great headway last week as we completed sections I thru III.  Many of these songs will be solos, and/or duets.

Rosa 4th block Girls' choir:
We have not much time left to prepare for Riverland.  This week we will focus on contest pieces, especially Cantate Domino.  Remember to study your terms study guide that was given to you last week.  We will have a test next Thursday on your musical terms and musical math.

11/05/07
Showchoir:
We have made great progress on Cinemagic and will continue to do so, as this piece is very lengthy and requires much rehearsal and preparation.  Christmas music is well underway.  Tuesday we plan to complete choreography for Let it Snow and then move forward to more choreography.

01/22/08
Showchoir:
Sorry that I did not update my schoolnotes last week.  I tried several times but could not log on.  For some reason, there was an "internal error".  Thank goodness that has been resolved.

This week we will continue work on Cinemagic.  Now that we have most of the solos worked out, we will begin blocking/staging the piece.  This is something different for us and I am excited to see how this show will work for us.  I believe that it will be great but as I've said before, it will require a big committment and a lot of work from everyone.  I know that we can do it!  Let's enjoy the process.

4th Block Rosa Girls:
This week we will continue working on contest pieces.  Remember that state contest is February 27th at Pearl High School.  Please focus as we work hard to learn and perfect our contest pieces.

1/28/08
Showchoir:
We will be working on Cinemagic most of the semester, as it is a large undertaking.  This week we will continue vocals to be certain of accuracy and we will also begin choreographing sections.

4th Block Rosa Girls:
We will continue working on Cantate Domino for contest.  Our second contest piece, Dodi Li, we know but will clean and perfect it even more for contest.
Remember!  You will be tested on Cantate Domino in a couple of weeks.  Those that are not able to ACCURATELY sing the piece, WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO GO TO CONTEST.  Get busy and make sure that you not only KNOW the piece, but that you can sing it ACCURATELY!
You will be tested!

We welcome Miss Ashley Brown to MC and Rosa.  Miss Brown is our student teacher this semester.  She is a student at Delta State and will be graduating in May.  She will also be married February 2nd.  CONGRATULATIONS Miss Brown!  We are glad that you are here!

2/4/08
Showchoir:
Last week we had a good start to choreography for Cinemagic.  This week we will continue to learn new choreography for this piece as well as continue to polish the vocals.  Please stay healthy and be present for each class.  We need to use our time wisely.

4th Block Rosa Girls:
This past week, we had three good rehearsals.  This week we will continue to get ready for contest which is only a few weeks away.  Please make every effort to do you very best as we prepare to make a superior!

2/11/08
Showchoir:
We made great progress last week.  Acts I and II are choreographed and we were even able to polish Act I.
Thanks, girls, for a great week.  This week will be more of the same.  We will continue to choreograph new material and then committ it to memory.

4th Block Rosa Girls:
Tomorrow, we will continue to polish our contest music.  Many of you have asked about spring concert.  We will be able to focus on spring concert after we have completed our state festival.  Go Jags!!!

2/19/08
Showchoir:
Girrrrrrrrrrls!!!!!!!!   Thanks for a great week of rehearsals.  I think that was some of your best work yet.  You worked hard and accomplished much.  To be honest, your focus was not as "on" as I'd like it to be.  I know that you can do better in that area, but we are most definitely on the right track.  This week we will move on to Act III of Cinemagic.  This section includes many slow "romantic" tunes, and because of the styles/tempos, we will use more staging and less choreography.  But, this is not easy.  It's difficult to maintain the interest of the audience without alot of movement.  You must be a good actress!  And I believe that each of you are.  Keep up the good work.  Time is flying by and we must be ready.

4th Block Rosa Girls:
Remember!  Rehearsal Tuesday, February 19th, 3:30 - 4:30 in the Rosa Choir Room.  This will be our only opportunity to put 4th and 5th blocks together.  BE THERE!!!  Remember that you must know your music in order to go to Contest.  Be studying.  Your singing test is this week!  Let's have a great week!

2/25/08
Showchoir:
This week I will be out for choir contest on Wednesday.  You will go to Mrs. Nix's room and be of help to her with projects concerning High School Musical.  Monday and Friday we will of course have class and we will spend this time working hard to perfect choreography for Acts I - III.  When you are certain of the choreography for these two sections, we will move on to new choreography for section IV.  We will keep pushing to learn this as fast as possible so that we are ready for April 16th. (Specific details as I receive them)

4th Block Rosa Girls:
This Tuesday we will go to Pearl High School for contest.  You have worked very hard on this contest music.  Please stay focused and do your best.
Parents:  should you want to come to Pearl to check out your student early, you MUST SEE ME so that I am certain that your child is with you.  PLEASE! Do not take your student from Festival without first seeing me face to face.  I must know that you did get your child and that he/she is safe with you.  Thank you for your cooperation.

03/03/08
Showchoir:
We are moving right along on Cinemagic.  It is a big undertaking but we are making much progress.  Acts I, II, and III will be completely learned by the end of class this Tuesday.  Thursday class will focus on a two fold mission:  to review Acts I - III and begin choreography for Act IV.  Good work girls!

4th Block Rosa Girls:
CONGRATULATIONS!!!  You received a very high SUPERIOR rating at District Festival.  You did a wonderful job on both Dodi Li and Cantate.  As you know, Cantate was the more challenging of the two pieces.  Your hard work and dedication paid off.  You can be very proud!  Now let's work hard to finish strong!!!  We will be ready to perform our very best when spring concert rolls around.  Keep up the good work!  I'm very proud of each of you!

03/10/08
Showchoir:
Girls, this week we are not going any further with choreography.  We are going to review many times, the choreography for Acts I, II, and III.  If we begin on Act IV before spring break, I'm afraid that we won't remember it when we return.  Therefore, we will make absolutely certain of the choreography for the first three Acts before we leave for spring break and when we return, we will jump into Act IV.  HAVE A SAFE AND FABULOUS SPRING BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4th Block Rosa Girls:
This week you will be able to spend some time with Mrs. Owen because she will be teaching you your part on pieces that she has selected to work on.  These pieces you will perform for the spring concert.  I know that you will enjoy them. In addition, we will continue to work on solfege and sightreading.
Spring break is right around the corner.  Please be SAFE and have WONDERFUL WELL DESERVED BREAK!!!!!!!!

03/24/08
Showchoir:
Hope you all had a fantastic spring break and are ready to buckle down and work hard to complete our spring show.  This week and next we will begin and finish Act IV.  Then we will spend the rest of the time polishing for our 4/16 performance.

4th Block Rosa Girls:
I hope that each of you had a wonderful spring break and are ready to "hit the ground running".  Mrs. Owen will be working with you the majority of the time on music for spring concert.  Our State Choral Festival is April 2nd, which is right around the corner, therefore, we will pick up right where we left off on Cantate and Dodi Li.

03/31/08
Showchoir:
This week is contest week in Pearl for choir.  Several of you will be out Wednesday for that.  We will continue to prepare for our performance on 4/16/08.

4th Block Rosa Girls:
Tomorrow we will work hard on Cantate and Dodi Li for contest.  We will begin the block with sight reading.  Remember to be dressed, ready to go, and in the choir room at 7:00 am because we sing very early in Pearl.
Good Luck!

04/07/08

4th Block Rosa Girls:

04/14/08
Showchoir:  This is it!  This Wednesday we perform in Jackson for FCCLA.  This is what we have worked so hard to prepare for.  Girls, please focus.  Think about what you have to do and do a great job.  You have worked hard, and you are prepared.  Just prepare yourselves mentally!  Break a Leg!!!

4th Block Rosa Girls:
We will continue preparing for spring concert.  Please respond in class the way that you know that you should.  Remember that we will have a MANDATORY rehearsal Tuesday, April 22nd at 6:00 pm!

4/23/08
Showchoir:  GREAT JOB!!!!!  I was very proud of your performance!  You received many wonderful comments.  This week we will focus on our spring concert which is Thursday night.  You must be dressed and ready to go at 5:00.

4th Block Rosa Girls:
Our spring concert is this Thursday night.  You must be there (auditorium) at 5:30.  Wear your nicest jeans and your choir t-shirt.

4/29/08
Showchoir:  Congratulations Girls!  You were a great hit Thursday night.  Your performance in our spring concert was wonderful.  I was very proud of you.  We will not get ready for next year's auditions.  We have to make posters, flyers, banners, to announce the auditions.  We will have a couple of run-outs before school is out.  You will receive more details later.

4th Block Rosa Girls:
Congratulations!  You did a great job in our spring concert Thursday night.  Cantate Domino was beautifully sung.  You really did a wonderful job.  Now we will get ready for auditions at the high school level.

5/5/08

5/12/18
Showchoir:  On Tuesday, May 13th be sure to change quickly into your pink dresses and board the bus for our run-out to The Waterford.  They are really looking forward to your performance.  Then, immediately after school on Tuesday, and Thursday as well, we will have show choir auditions for next year.  Please encourage students that you feel would be good in showchoir, to audition.  No song is necessary.  Wear comfortable shoes and clothes.
