9/17/08
We analyzed the poetry of William Blake in class today, especially his use of imagery.  Your pictures are very vivid (just what Blake intended, I'm sure.  We did not take the quiz on Chapters 18-23 of P&P, so be prepared on Friday to take this quiz, as well as a quiz on Chapters 24-33 or Vol. 11, Chapters 1-10.  Also, remember your literary vocabulary quiz (40 words) is Friday.  See you then. We began the Romantic Period (1798-1832) today by discussing the introduction to the period and taking background notes.  We also read about Robert Burns and listened to his two poems, "Afton Water" and "To A Mouse."  You took a quiz on Chapters 1-17.  For homework you are to read and complete the study guide questions for P&P Chapters 18-23 and be prepared for a quiz on these chapters.  You are also to read about William Blake on pp. 645-6 and his poems on pp. 647-654.  Remember to go outside tomorrow and enjoy the weather while you are reading poetry! We accomplished quite a bit of work today in English.  You finished the OTHELLO presentations, reviewed the common usage errors in grammar, took the literary terms quiz, and began the study of Jane Austen and PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.  Your homework is to read and complete the study guide questions for Chapters 3-17 of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE and to read the Introduction to the Romantic Period in your textbooks (pp. 622-638).  Remember you will have a quiz on the first seventeen chapters of P&P next class period (Monday), and you must bring your literature book to class. Today you took the Othello test, using most of the class time.  You also completed the Glossary of Usage Diagnostic Test, which we will go over Thursday, as well as finish the Othello presentations.  Remember to complete the College Admissions form with essay and to bring your literature textbook to class Thursday.  You also need a copy of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Jane Austen for next Monday.  We are extremely busy in English these days, so stay focused! Both vocabulary and Othello quizzes were taken today, and most of the groups presented their Othello projects. The remaining few groups will present on Tuesday after the Othello test.  Be sure to study since tests count 60%.  Have a good weekend, and I'll see you Tuesday. GO JAGS ! ! ! Mrs. A.

Yesterday we completed reviewing Acts IV and V of OTHELLO. Your presentations will be tomorrow, and I can't wait to see your creativity! Also, tomorrow is the quiz on Acts IV and V and Vocabulary Quiz 2. Don't forget to study for these quizzes!  See you tomorrow. Mrs. A.

Today and Monday we finished Acts II and III of OTHELLO, and you took a quiz on all three acts.  Your homework is to complete the Alternative Assessment handout for Acts I-III of OTHELLO, and you also have a quiz on the first ten words of the Literary terms list.  See you Friday, Mrs. A.

We had quite a lively discussion in class today about marriages and the ideal partner.  We completed Act I of OTHELLO, and second block began Act II.  Your homework is to read Act II and answer the study guide questions for same.  Also, be ready for a quiz on Act I and II of OTHELLO.  Be sure you know the names of the characters (including how to correctly spell them!)  Have a good weekend, and I'll see you Monday. Today we checked the Diagnostic Reading Test, and I was very pleased that so many of you made such a good score.  Remember to carefully read the explanation for any that you missed, and we'll see how you do on the first practice test, which will be next week.  We also reviewed background information on William Shakespeare and the Globe Theater before beginning OTHELLO.  Your homework is to finish reading Act I of OTHELLO and answer the study guide questions for same.  I hope you will enjoy this play!  See you Thursday, Mrs. A.
